Stupid

A Poem

Etienne J. Sarfelli
You must really think I'm stupid

That I would actually believe that you cared enough

That I would actually believe you would come here

One day - maybe out of the blue

And spend time with me

That you would do all the things you've promised

When we've talked deep into the night

You must really think I'm crazy enough

To actually believe that I mattered to you at all

To believe there was anything between us

You must really I'm an idiot

To think that I would really drop everything in anticipation

Of some unplanned arrival

That I would wait with my heart pounding in my chest

And tears ready to fall each time my phone phone would ring

And I really must be stupid

because I believed all of those things

And changed my plans

and anticipated your arrival

spending all day waiting for the phone to ring

But you never even called.
