Stupid Laws in Missouri
In Kansas City, You May Not Install a Bathtub with Legs that Resemble Animal Paws
If you are single in the state of Missouri, you might want to get married, if you want to pay less in taxes. One stupid Missouri law, enacted in 1820, requires single men between 21 to 50 to pay an annual tax of $1.
Some people may consider this Missouri law stupid, and some may not, but it at one time was not illegal to speed when driving in the state. The law has been repealed, however.
If you are under 21 and see an empty beer bottle someone threw in your yard, you better not pick it up. Have someone else throw it away. If it is in your possession, you may be charged with illegal possession of alcohol.
A variety of cities in Missouri have their own stupid laws.
In Buckner, a city with only 4,000 people, you may burn yard waste any other day, but you will be breaking the law if you do so on Sunday.
In Columbia, you may have a 25 foot satellite dish outside of your home, but you will be breaking a law if have an antenna exposed outside your house.
You may drape your clothes over a fence in Columbia to let them dry, yet clotheslines are illegal in the city.
In Kansas City, if you are a minor, you may freely buy shotguns. You may not, however, purchase cap pistols.
In Marceline, if you are a minor, you may buy rolling paper and tobacco. You may not buy lighters.
In Marquette, four unmarried persons may not live at the same address. The law was designed to prevent brothels.
In Natchez, you may not give any intoxicating beverages to an elephant.
It is illegal in Purdy to dance.
In St. Louis, you may not drink beer from a bucket, if you are sitting on a city curb at the same time.
If you are a milk man, you will be breaking the law if you run while you are on duty.
It is illegal in UniversalCity for four or more women to rent an apartment together.
It is illegal in UniversalCity to have a yard sale in your own front yard.
