Few people seem to read poetry these days. To be honest, looking at what is available, I am not too surprised. It seems to contribute nothing, many poems are not very accessible, in that they are hard to understand, and sometimes hard to read, and many poems seem to be about vague things or make rather corny statements like 'God is wonderful', 'Love is beautiful', 'Life is to be treasured', 'War is very nasty', etc.
Well, I can't really be bothered with that stuff either: they are not saying anything new and, from what I've seen, they are often saying it clumsily as well. There is a lot of beautiful poetry out there, but it is not always accessible or easy to relate to. There is a tendency for poetry, as an art to be esoteric. Most people don't like words like esoteric.
I write stupid poems about sheep. I write some of the other sort, as well - but you don't need to read those. I have also written some informative poems about animals - you might like to read them, but to be honest, I am proudest of the stupid poems about sheep.
So why should you read stupid poems about sheep?
Well, basically because they are stupid poems about sheep. They are easily accessible, understandable and they might amuse you. I write them because they amuse me. They are reasonably good poems, they rhyme with, usually, good meter and there is no real need to try to read much deeper meaning into them - they are not intended to be intellectually challenging or give any special insights into life, the universe or anything - they are not really going to tell you much about sheep, either. But they might make you smile, and they might make you take life just a little less seriously and have just a little more fun.
Oh, and by the way, there is only one way to read poetry properly, and that is aloud. If you find yourself stumbling over the words, then that something is wrong - please let me know.
If you have managed to read this far, then I expect you will try at least one poem - so thank you. If you have not read this far, then don't worry.

I wanted to be a serious writer - unfortunately my muse is a small and not completely sane sheep - but what can you do? It's hard to explain, but that's life and I guess someone has to do it! View profile
