The Bismarck Tribune announced Stverak's move ahead of the Giuliani campaign, who could not confirm until an official announcement was released. It is expected that Stverak will take a few weeks off after leaving his former post and before entering his new position.
In a profile compiled by the Bismarck Tribune in late 2006, it was reported that Stverak was thirty-three years of age. The same profile also noted that his time at Baylor was spent studying a mixture of foreign service and Slavic studies as well as economics. Before assuming his position as Executive Director for the North Dakota Republican Party, he served as the Political Director for the Nebraska Republican Party.
The Giuliani campaign website reports that Stverak has spent time working on Capitol Hill with former South Dakota Senator Larry Pressler. The homepage of the North Dakota Republican Party explains that his service to Senator Pressler was as a summer intern in 1994 and 1995. He then joined Senator Pressler's Washington office full-time after graduating from college in 1996, returning to his native South Dakota briefly to head up portions of the Senator's reelection campaign. He later served, as Legislative Campaign Coordinator for the South Dakota Republican Party through 1999.
Stverak also declined to comment on his appointment to the Giuliani campaign post until an official announcement was made. Instead, it was reported by InForum News that he was leaving his former post, where he was the longest-serving incumbent, to pursue other political opportunities. InForum News also related that North Dakota Republican Party Chairman Gary Emineth tried to persuade Stverak from leaving his post as Executive Director, stating that he was very effective in that position. During his time there, Stverak was able to enjoy watching the Republican Party regain the State Treasurer's office, retain many other Republican-held state positions, and remain in the majority of the state Legislature.
Stverak is expected to enter his new position by August 1st.
