Style Your Hair like Alicia Keys with These Great Tips

Keyona Ray
There is no question about it; Alicia Keys has beautiful hair. No matter what style she is rockin', she is always able to pull it off wonderfully. It's a little more complicated if you're trying to style your hair like when she had the long braided cornrows, when she was first introduced to us. Over the years I've seen her with several different new hairstyles and have loved them all. With a few of the right products and a few great tips, you can achieve the new stylish, sophisticated look that she has managed to grace us with. My favorite hairstyle of hers is the one she had back in 2008 at the BET awards. With this style, she had her hair slicked back on the top and sides, then pulled into a curly, bouncy ponytail in the back. This style will give you the appearance of having hair with great volume. This look is very simple and in about 30 minutes, you can have a hairstyle like Alicia Keys. This style is suitable for medium to thick hair and you will only need a few products to achieve this look.

Products you will need: blow dryer, hot rollers, styling comb, moose, smoothing shine

Styling Steps:

First, apply moose all over your hair starting with the roots and working your way down, paying special attention to the ends. I recommend using Herbal Essences Volumizing Moose; this is a great product and is pretty cheap as well.

Next, part your hair in the middle, and with a large radial brush, blow dry the back and sides of your hair under.

After hair is completely dried, use small to medium sized hot rollers, and roll the sides and back of your hair. Allow the rollers to set until they are completely cooled, then remove.

Now you will need to use a styling comb or a "pick" to tease your hair. When teasing your hair it is best to go through separate sections at a time. Just pick up small sections of your hair and tease, then another section, and so forth. This way, all your hair is teased and not just a few parts.

Use a hair bow of your choice, I would prefer just a plain black pony tail holder. Smooth the front of your hair back and make sure the back and sides of your hair that you curled are secured with the pony tail holder.

Lastly, apply a smoothing shine serum to the top of your hair so that it keeps that slicked back look. A great product to use is SAMY Salon Systems Silk Anti-Frizz Smoothing Serum. This will keep you from having those fly-a-ways and will give your pony tail a more sophisticated and sexy look.
