Designing your own homemade school supplies not only saves a ton of money, but there is no hassle with shopping either. You can easily personalize your school supplies with names, favorite colors, designs and themes without spending extra money on printing or embroidery. Plus, your school supplies will be completely unique, because they are h homemade instead of manufactured in mass quantities.

Each of the projects below are easily made with basic craft supplies, most of which, you probably have available already. Save even more money by using scraps of paper or fabric instead of buying new.

Cute Index Cards

Use any design software on your computer to create your own cute index cards. Set the document size to 3.5 inches by 5 inches. Decorate the cards using the clip art and shape tools available in your software. You could even personalize the index cards with your own name. Print your homemade index cards on heavyweight paper or card stock and cut them out with a paper cutter or scissors.

Fancy Folders

Trace a regular file folder onto patterned card stock or use heavyweight colored paper instead. Cut the folder shape out of the paper using straight edged scissors or pinking shears. Decorate the folders with stickers and stamped images or sketch your own designs using colored markers and paints.

Pencil Pouches

Use a pretty fabric to create an organized pouch for your pens and pencils. Cut a piece of fabric to measure approximately 12 inches wide by 24 inches high. Fold the fabric in half horizontally, with the design facing down, to create a square measuring 12 inches wide by 12 inches high. Fold the square in half again to measure 12 inches wide by 6 inches high. Hand stitch the left and right side, of the fabric, closed. Sew a zipper into the opening on the top. Flip the pouch inside out to show the patterned side of the fabric and zip it closed.
