Suave Advanced Therapy Lotion Review

When it comes to beauty products, the name Suave is synonymous with basic, inexpensive items. Suave products are sold at drugstores and discount department stores like Wal-Mart and Target, as well as any number of online retailers. Their prices are cheap even by drugstore standards, charging $2-3 for products that competitors offer for $5-6. I've had good results with some Suave products in the past, including several items from their hair care line. So when I saw Suave Advanced Therapy lotion for "severely dry skin," I decided to check it out.

I definitely fit into the "severely dry" category, as I suffer from a skin condition called psoriasis. Similar to eczema, this causes patches of dry, rough skin that can look pretty awful if your skin doesn't get enough moisture. Without proper moisture, affected areas can also itch or feel tight. So as you might imagine, I try a lot of products in my never-ending quest for happy, healthy skin.

What immediately struck me about the Suave Advanced Therapy lotion was its mild scent. Some moisturizing products are downright stinky, or wind up not smelling like what's advertised on the bottle. This lotion offers almost no scent, and what's there is pretty faint. If I had to describe the scent, I'd say it's like a slightly sweeter version of what baby wipes smell like. When my skin's cooperating, I relish the opportunity to not smell like a medicine cabinet - so the lack of odor is a definite plus.

I spend a lot of time typing, which can be a problem with some moisturizers. Some lotions stay greasy for quite a while, which can make it difficult to get back to what you're doing without getting residue everywhere. Wasting time waiting for lotion to dry is about as fun as it sounds, so I'm also happy to report that Suave Advanced Therapy lotion leaves behind no greasy feel whatsoever. It soaks neatly into the skin, leaving a silky finish behind but no mess. This is honestly more than I expected from a Suave product, as some more expensive lotions have done a far worse job.

I have definitely noticed an improvement in my skin's moisture since using this product, which counts as a glowing endorsement from me. With dry, flaky, sensitive skin, I ask for a lot in a moisturizer and usually don't get it. Products either can't keep up with my skin condition or cause me to break out, so I'm always happy to find one that's useful. I can't say that this lotion has cleared up psoriasis flare-ups or anything extreme, but my skin feels softer and looks calmer. In total, I've used this lotion over the span of about 3 weeks, and noticed a marked improvement by the third day.

Any regular lotion user also knows about the layer of what can only be described as "lotion crust," which forms around a bottle or pump opening. These hardened lumps of lotion can get lodged inside the bottle, making it difficult to get product out without dismantling the whole thing and rinsing it under hot water. Strangely, for as long as I've been using Suave Advanced Therapy lotion, it's never developed a crust. I think it may be the only lotion I've ever tried that hasn't, so that's a point worth mentioning.

All in all, Suave Advanced Therapy lotion has proven to be a pretty good product. I definitely got more than I expected for the low price, particularly due to my skin issues. For the cost of a few bucks, this is one moisturizer that's earned its spot in my bathroom.
