Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut Conditioner Review

The Pen
I have a kinky and coarse hair texture that I now wear in it's natural state. I had relaxed hair for most of my life, so I had to learn how to take care of my natural texture, and am still figuring out which products and techniques work best for my texture.

A product that I've seen a lot of natural women using has been the Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut Conditioner. A lot of these curly girls use it not to condition their strands, but to actually co-wash their hair (washing their hair with conditioner rather than shampoo in order to keep hair moisturized).

I saw a lot of women raving about using this conditioner that way, so I decided to hop on the bandwagon. I went out and bought a family size 22.5 oz bottle of the Tropical Coconut Conditioner for $2.19 at Walgreen's.

It smells great, like a blend of coconut, bananas, and pineapples. And it contains ingredients like vitamin E, silk amino acids, honey, nettle extract, rosemary leaf extract, and coconut extract.

I really wanted to use it to cleanse my hair, but unfortunately I'd used a lot of silicone on my hair the week before, so I had to use a shampoo to remove all of that build-up.

I used the Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut Shampoo to cleanse my strands and then I followed up with the Tropical Coconut Conditioner.

The Suave conditioner is very light but at the same time it's quite oily. I found that because it was so light I had to apply a whole lot of it in order to soften and moisturize my thick hair. Even then it still didn't hydrate my hair as much as I would've preferred. The oiliness didn't make a difference, it's just way too light and watery to make a big impact with my hair type.

After I rinsed my coarse and tight curls were left feeling a bit softer than they had before, but I still had quite a bit of frizz. When I began to style my hair, I found that it was more tangled and less manageable than it usually is.

In the End...

For normal or oily hair types the Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut Conditioner would probably be sufficient. But for a dry texture like mine's it doesn't cut it. It's not moisturizing enough. Since it's so light I'll probably use it only to co-wash my strands, and then I'll be applying another conditioner right afterward for extra moisture. I give this conditioner 2.5 out of 5 stars.
