MY GRANDKIDS

Many grandparents wish they could have more time with their grandkids and some feel they're always underfoot. This poem tell of a very special day with four grandkids.

Grandparents need to learn to meet the challenges of their modern day grandkids. Sadly, this may include dealing with a grandchild losing a friend to suicide. It's a brave new world for grandparents today.

As 2012 begins, I am looking at my life to make changes. These resolutions affect how I relate to my kids and grandkids.

I built a bear from scratch for my son's first Christmas using things I already had available to me. I poured so much love into that little Christmas bear and tho it is old and tattered my son still loves him.

What can I do "be the change I wish to see," and make this a better world for my grandchildren?

Don't you just love it when your grandkids show you simple things they've made? Isn't it fun when you sit down with them and they teach you how to do it? Have fun with these Easter bunnies.

Thinking about my mom, as mothers day is rolling around and ,it is a hard time of year for me.

People sometimes think that being a grandmother in your 50s means that you sit in a rocking chair and sip lemonade. That's not the case for this 50 something grandma.

Do you worry about your kids sitting around hour after hour playing video games while they are gaining weight and getting no exercise. Well as a parent and a grandparent I have shared the same worry. I found a great little solution.

You could say I've lived a sheltered life, because when you play in bands, you don't really associate with the audience a lot, It's a very exclusive zone your in most of the time, the band is the only real family you have.

Staying mentally fit is critical to the many facets of my life, especially as a small business owner. I learned that routine makes my brain lazy. Now I rouse my brain with music, history, and socializing.

Waking up at 3 a.m. to start training for my first marathon in 12 weeks, I was in for some unexpected events...chafed nipples, Vaseline mishaps, and speedwalking grandmothers.

Many grandparents spend countless hours sitting on those hard benches in hot or cold weather waiting for their grandkids to hit the ball. [Or whatever is needed for the sport they're watching.]

I have so many wonderful memories of Christmas growing up. Most of them include my grandfather. Each year he would put on the same red sweatsuit and Santa hat on Christmas.

This is a story of me - someone who had meaningless Christmases year after year - and how I finally got to start experiencing what Christmas really means and the joy it brought to my life through my in-laws.

I've been missing my grandmothers lately and this little poem came to mind. But first a brief explanation of each woman....

It's weird how your memory can play tricks on you. Before I cracked open my old diaries today I had already written the story of how Don and I met. I couldn't believe how far off from the truth that first draft was. I had to scrap it and start all over.
