FLYING SAUCERS

Remember the space age cartoon "The Jetsons"? George Jetson whizzed around in this flying saucer, not hindered by the need for an asphalt road to drive on. Now we are closer to living in a world where that possibility is a reality rather than a fun fantasy.

In the summer of 1984 during the Los Angeles Summer Olympics, the smog cleared out, the traffic got lighter, and I had my all-time favorite Summer Olympic memory.

UFOs, their occupants, and the stories attached to them, can be read to mirror societal issues, and whether one is inclined to believe in the nuts and bolts of it or not, it may be shortsighted to dismiss the apparitions, and narratives that arise in conjunction.

2006 marks the 50th anniversary of several classic science fiction movies, and summer weekends are the ideal time to watch these movies, with a bucket of popcorn and a suspension of disbelief. These movies paved the way for the classic TV shows of today.
