As an idea, curriculum stems from the Latin word for race course, referring to the course of deeds and experiences through which children grow to become mature adults. A curriculum is prescriptive.

Portland, Oregon is becoming famous for it's extraordinarily huge pot holes in city streets. Some are so large they become seasonal lakes which occasionally swallow cars, bikes and pedestrians. I almost drove into this one.
