While driving over the mountains in Montana, we noticed the strong smell of smoke and darkening skies. It soon became clear that somewhere up ahead a forest fire was burning. We passed by it in Lame Deer as it raced toward the road.

Over the last two years I have tried to hone in my photography skills. Living in Japan gave me some good practice but nothing compares to home. Montana

These pictures were taken on August 24, 2007. The public recreation area less than a mile from Lakeside Marina is beautiful. It is a gift of the State and Conservationist. The hours are 9 AM to 9PM. It is about 11 miles from downtown Helena. No smoke or haze.

These photos were taken during the first week of December and reflect sub-zero temperatures and blizzard conditions along U.S. Highway 2 spanning the distance between West Glacier Park and East Glacier Park.

WILD FIRES IN MONTANA AND IDAHO HAS TAKEN ITS TOLL ON HELENA'S BIG BLUE SKY. AS OF AUGUST 21 THE SKY IS BLUE AND CLEAR. THIS IS THE GREATEST TIME OF THE YEAR IN BIG SKY COUNTRY.
