Mary SwinglerMary Swingler is a "work in progress." she is still learning, growing, making mistakes (not as many as I used to) and changing. Over the past 64 years she has cared for 5 incredible children, who have matured into loving and responsible adults.they always were and always will be her biggest blessing in life. She used to be pro active in many outdoor activities such as, horseback riding, swimming, tennis and soccer, just to name a few. For the most part, Mary is self taught. She would practice her drafting skills in the basement at night, after her children went to sleep. She borrowed books from the library so she could learn the techniques of drafting. Her first paid job was as a draftsman in Washington state. She always loved horses; she became a horse trainer in Washington state, after receiving some advice and instruction from another horse trainer. She trained 6 horses before moving to Florida. Throughout her adult life, Mary has also been passionate about her writing. She never had any formal training, but she has attended several online tutorials for iimproving your writing skills; she read numerous articles, which detailed how to write. She did receive an honorable mention in a poetry contest that she entered a few years ago. One dream has eluded her; she aspires to be a great published writer. Like herself, her writing skills are a work in progress; both are continuously evolving and improving. Her health has changed in critical ways, during the last five years. She has a profound hearing loss; she is deaf in her left ear with a modicum of hearing in her right ear. This occurrence triggered a deep interest in learning American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf culture. Mary recently found a very smart, beautiful, 2 year old collie named Riley. She has taught him many of the skills necessary for him to become her "hearing dog." Riley and Mary go everywhere together; he has become her constant companion. In spite of theses changes in her life, she still

Kennedy RunyanI am the oldest of nine and I am currently working to get my college degree in "Creative Writing" and "Professional Communications" In high school I took three creative writing classes, and two of them was the Spectrum, a literary magazine my school made. I was on the staff of that junior and senior year. I took three years of ASL (American Sign Language), one year of French, a web design class, among other random extra courses.
Renae HeilmanMy name is Renae and I am a 34 year old mother of 3 . Our third bouncing baby boy joined our family on Aug 27th of 2011. My boys range in age from 0- 13. They make every day interesting. I am blessed by family, friends, and faith. I have been teaching since 2000 and have taught at all age levels in the public schools. I started my career in a a multi-level Deaf Education classroom. It was an exciting experience. The students ranged in age from 3 years old to 3rd grade. I became very close with the families and these students as I would have them year after year. My second assignment was working as an itinerant teacher. I traveled around to various schools to work with Deaf and Hard of hearing students in their home schools. This position enabled me to work with all ages, have a new perspective and gave me the time to go back to school and pursue my next passion of working with children in the counseling field. It was my least favorite of my teaching experience because I did not get to know the students as well or develop a working relationship with them. I then returned to the classroom. Again I worked in a multi level Deaf Education classroom with preschool ages through 4th grade. Just after the birth of my second son I was presented with a new opportunity in teaching. I went to work for a High School as the American Sign Language (ASL) teacher. Students have the option of taking this class for their foreign language credit. I was a little skeptical about teaching full time in a High School as most of my experience has been at the elementary level but once again I loved it. It was completely different than what I had been doing but had many new and exciting twists and turns. Now I was able to teach young adults how they too could communicate in the Deaf world. Maybe I would even have a few that wanted to pursue this new found skill as an interpreter or a teacher in Deaf Education. I have a strong passion for the Deaf community and feel I am an advocate for them.
