Leonard TelfordBorn in Northampton, England, I grew up on a small farm in Devon. I first became interested in editing and writing when I went to university, first at Exeter, then at Bath, where I wrote for the local student newspapers. I currently work as a freelance editor and writer, particularly in the areas of farming, animals, science and health. I write for several online companies, which allows me to access work wherever I am in the world. As you might have guessed, I love to travel, and that is an area I am looking to expand. Because I am based in the UK, I tend to travel to Europe and Africa, although I have been to the States, and I am planning on a trip to Asia within the next two years. I hold a Master's degree in Chemistry, which covered areas such as medicine, health, forensics, and physics as well as basic chemistry. This gives me a wide range of expertise on scientific topics. My thesis was on utilizing catalysts for the production of biodiesel, a renewable form of diesel made from plant oils. I currently live in Rushden, a small town in Northamptonshire, with my cat.
chris aure‘A writer trying to be a chemist’, was how a friend used to describe me back at the University of the Philippines. I would have wanted to be labeled as a ‘chemist trying to be a writer’, instead. Back then, my idea was that before anyone can write, there should be enough compelling experiences to write about. So I went on with my studies, eventually got a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and worked for a government laboratory. After a few years I decided to try my luck in the UAE and landed jobs, first in the water treatment industry and presently, as an oil spill responder. I tried to immerse myself with the struggles of day to day living while spending time on whatever fleeting topics of interest comes to mind----from literature to politics to sports to history to natural sciences---- limiting writing to very few occasions. Thirty one years of living, indeed, is enough to give anyone their dose of ‘compelling’ experiences. Enough to know how it feels to lose a father and raise a son; to realize that unknowingly, some friends have become strangers while strangers have become friends; to live so long in another country that your idea of ‘home’ is a bit far away; to know that life is short. Little by little, everybody broadens their own spectrum of human experience. Still, that might not be compelling enough for anybody to write. And then one day, while on annual vacation and pretty much have the time to just do what I really love, I decided: I’ll write.
