  • Lisa Small
After a diagnosis of breast cancer in 2004 and one chemo treatment, my mom purchased some video tapes of a doctor who had breast cancer and turned down conventional treatment. As a result, she has been labeled a "quack" even though she has been well now since the 80's. In her videos, the doctor describes all the research she had done (because she never learned any of it in med school. After watching these videos, I had an unquenchable thirst for a much better understanding of our bodies, our immune system and how faith, lifestyle and diet affect them. I spend most of my time in 2005 just reading, researching and doing my own experiments. In addition, because I had so much knowledge going around in my brain, I needed an outlet for it; I couldn't contain it all. This led to writing a newsletter that I distributed to family, friends and whoever else was interested. Though many were skeptics at first, including family members, as time went on some of them slowly realized there was something to all of this and even started making changes themselves! God used this experience to grow my faith and to understand that our confidence should be in Him, not in people. If you sent a survey to my doctors on who was the best patient as far as cooperation, they put me down first! I thought faith was doing exactly what my doctors told me to do, like a good little girl. Boy, was I wrong! The Lord guided me and reminded me to 'seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these will be given to me' (Matthew 6:33), meaning the understanding that I would need to grasp what I was learning and the courage to implement it. Through the encouragement of doctor I mentioned above, He showed me that He is our Healer and He will guide our steps when we trust Him. This experience built my confidence not in doctors or even me, but in our Lord, our Savior and our Healer. He has ALL the answers and will always lead us in the right and best way if we let Him.
