Michele Whitney was Born and raised in Chicago, and received her BS in marketing from Northern Illinois University and an MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management. She is now a PhD candidate for public service leadership at Capella University with a dissertation topic on the human-animal bond. An animal lover, she volunteers with several animal shelters. Her writing has been published in the Chicago Sun-Times and other venues. She spends her free time playing the flute, cooking, and practicing aromatherapy.

Whimsical? Perhaps. Exurberant? With certainty. My name is Samantha Lindholm, an eighteen-year-old, soon-to-be graduate from high school. I've been intrigued by art, writing, and music my entire life. I took up learning the flute in 5th grade and have followed it all the way to the end of my senior year of high school. I wrote an 80-plus page portion of a fiction novel by the time I was finished with 8th grade, and although I never finished the novel, I followed honors English courses all the way through high school. I have been engaged with designing graphics on Adobe Photoshop for 6 years and recently began a formal education in graphic design at a local tech school. Of late, I've taken to drawing and painting with the intention to enhance my design skills. For a teenager without more than a decade and a half under my belt, this is the scope of my experience with what interests me. I'm interested in expression. I always want to say something, whether I convey it through words, colors, or sounds. And so here I am, breaching that gap between childhood and legal adulthood, looking on a world to which I have so much to say.

I've covered an entire Jethro Tull album on a dare, joined a Klezmer group and learned, to a degree, Yiddish so I could sing AND play piccolo in the band and founded an orchestra and concert band. I survived - with most of my brain cells, a disco band. I have been a very busy mad piccolo player. I play at churches, wedding, receptions, bars, wherever I can whip out the flute or piccolo (or, on occasion, the viola) BUT I have other interests besides being the center of attention on the band stand. . I love the Chicago Cubs - because they are family. I grew up down the street from Wrigley and you love your family no matter what. So there, Cubbie un-lovers. . Being an aging single babe, I of course have the obligatory cats '" you can't be a mad piccolo player aging Cubs fan and not have cats. . I love to garden but, being a city dweller am limited to my big back porch. I have grown hot peppers, tomatoes, tons of basil (my pesto kills) and of course pretty, pretty flowers. . Another benefit of growing up in Chi-town is that the local PBS station used to run silent movies on the weekends. I got very addicted to them as a child and try to get to see them at the Chicago Silent Film Society when I can. . Silent movies lead one to foreign films '" trust me, they do. And so, I must admit that the overwhelming majority of films I watch are foreign. I love America, but the majority of films made here are aimed at ADD teen-agers who want to see things blow up or women chain-sawed or worse. To each her own, but that doesn't float my boat so, off to France or Iran or Ireland or -- for my movie fixes. I've even got my aged moms watching them. . Add to the above my eclectic taste in books. I must be on the FBI and CIA lists if only for all the books I checked out from the library on serial murderers. You see, I find the human mind fascinating. I am not as interested in the "what" of murders but the "why" '" why did this fellow or that become such a beast?
