My lifelong love affair with writing has recently been revived with the start of my blog at DeliciouslyAlive.com. I am a Mental Health Counselor currently working at a Psychiatric/Substance Abuse hospital as the Utilization Review Clinician. Basically, I battle the insurance companies. I have been diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, a digestive tract disorder with chronic and embarassing symptoms, but it doesn't hold me back. I practice Yoga, write, eat a diet that works for me, and look to the Crohn's as a "teacher"... and not a "disease". I love life and all it has to offer, knowing that later, I'll be nostalgic for this moment.

  • Kris von Fossen
Originially from Oklahoma, moved to the Kansas City area when I was 9. Normal childhood, parents got separated when I was 15. Except that my dad left a "Dear John" letter while we were living in a motel. Saw him once after that and not in about 16 years. At that time my father was my hero and I was devastated. Later in life I've learned some awful things he did after he left. I took his departure and that sorrow and developed it into a strong sense of humor. It's probably one of my best traits, if not my best. Went to college (Pittsburg State), joined a fraternity (Sigma Tau Gamma), and got my degree in psychology. I worked in the field of mental health for years, helping others, but not focusing on my issues or truly dealing with my own depression. My grandfather was an alcoholic and I discovered in my mid-20's that I am as well. I won't get into the long version of all the pain, suffering, and craziness that happened. All I can say is I celebrated 2 years in May of this year. It's not easy, but nothing in life comes without hard work. Finally, I'm a gamer, and will be for life. I've pretty much had every single system that's ever come out, starting with the Atari. I've progressed from there. I'm also a huge sports nut and love to watch all sports. I think that's good for now.

A Baby Boomer and mid-life career changer, my goal is to motivate and encourage others to overcome obstacles in life. I completed my Bachelors Degree in 2005 and left behind a twenty-five year Sales career to pursue a life-long desire to work in Mental Health. I hold a B.A.A.S in Behavioral Science and currently work as a Qualified Mental Health Professional and Advocate for individuals suffering from mental illness. It's never too late to start over. I'm a prime example! My life drastically changed in 2004 when I faced the greatest fear of my life on a new reality show that was supposed to air on a major television network. Unfortunately, the show was never released, but my motivation has never been stronger. "It's better to face your fear and fail than never face your fear at all". Disclaimer Note: I am not a licensed counselor nor do I hold the credentials to make any diagnosis.
