My hometown is San Antonio, TX. Having been raised in Texas, I chose college near my family, Southwest Texas State University. Being an educator has become my life, my love, my dream. Although, there might be a moment of without a student, I still look for a lesson. My curiosity never escapes me. I am a certified EC-4th grade teacher and knowing how to plan, implement and maintain impeccable records comes naturally to me. I aspire to contribute my skills and talents in '..."a position which encompasses a large volume of highly complex decisions, a high degree of initiative and judgment.' I welcome the opportunity to diversify and show my mastery in any teaching environment. I consider myself to be an intelligent, conscientious and trustworthy educator and truly believe that each student has individual needs. Thus, a caring, stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially is the key to success. As an educator, I help students meet their fullest potential by giving them knowledge to facilitate their own growth. I know establishing an atmosphere of mutual respect in the classroom between a teacher and students, as well as between students and students is crucial. If a teacher models respect and compassion, the students will respond in the same fashion, not only towards the teacher but also towards each other. Each student learns differently, and it is very important to meet their needs by learning each students learning style and monitoring their progress with a variety of assessments in order to implement instructions that draw upon each student's strength. I understand that you can only teach what you know and I am constantly trying to learn new techniques/skills/art history facts that can help students. I want them to leave with the knowledge and self-confidence that will allow them to go out into the world and compete on an equal footing. It is up to me to gain the skills and knowled

Born and raised in Harlingen, TX. I became a father at the age of 18 and have two beautiful daughters, and a loving wife. I have lived from the southern tip of Texas to the Sierra Mountain Region of Reno, NV. I have no idea why I love writing as it can and does cause unnecessary frustration through writer's block and just not being able to find that perfect word. However, it is during that moment just after finishing expressing all my thoughts and ideas in what to me is a harmony of words and sentences, in which I gain a sense of accomplishment and joy that is not found in any other aspect of my personal life. I owe a great deal of thanks to my ever supporting family, especially my grandmother who is always "telling it like it is", which is where I learned the freedom of writing.
  • Tiffany Griggs
Born in Midland, Texas in 1970. I trace where we lived with the accent I had at the time: New Orleans toddler-talk-turned-Lincolnshire accent (Louth, Lincolnshire, UK); Queen's English (London); Scottish brogue (Aberdeen, Scotland); brogue- turned- fake- Texan- turned-passable - Colorado (?) accent (Houston, Tx) which is the accent I kept (I'm told) through subsequent years in DubaI, Switzerland and most recently, Austin, Texas. Phew! I have a gearhead husband- we are entrepreneurs and have an automotive repair shop. I am a Distinguished Speaker at Texas State University's McCoy School of Business- Entrepreneurial Program. I'm headed towards an MBA, or a MSC (if LSE). I travel as much as possible, love learning languages, listen to a lot of music that swirls on a punk and grunge compass. I think I can play guitar, I have a budget and I bring home animals that I somehow have found homes for. I love the rain, the cold, my garden, my African cichlids, my 6 year-old MacBook (again, THANK YOU Auntie Chris and Uncle John). I am thankful for my extended family, our health, thankful to my brother for his service. I'm lucky to have a sexy husband, a fine education, funny friends, fantastic memories, a beautiful, loving mother and my brother- alive and walking -after falling out of a plane. Yay Me!

Born July 23, 1973 in Milwaukee, WI, I was the middle daughter of 3 girls. A happy and seamingly healthy baby, life took an unexpected turn when at 15 months, I was diagnosed with a neuromuscular disease that sentenced me to death by age 3, or life in a wheelchair. I beat death, but was unable to escape the alternate sentence of life in a wheelchair. This turned out to be both a blessing and a curse. I gave my 1st speech at age 4. Serving as the TX and (subsequently) FL State Poster Child for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, I received an incredible gift. I learned young how a negative could become a positive. My experiences placed me in unique situations. I gave speeches, met celebrities, did interviews and appeared on TV. I learned I could make a contribution to something meaningful. I carried these experiences with me, and acknowledge that they shaped the way I lived my life. As a result, I've approached life largely as a self-proclaimed "optimist to a fault." But, I have faced more challenges than my disability and all of the side-effects that illness brought to my life. I grew up with an adopted sister who was very emotionally disturbed, and battled a traumatic relationship with food and body image. Throughout all of it, however, I worked hard to set goals for myself and to see those goals through. Through writing, I have learned more about myself and have continued to have revelations that have deepened my recognition of how fortunate I am and have reinforced for me the importance of gratitude. With great passion, I write in hopes of inspiring, teaching and entertaining. My greatest wish is to bring hope to others and to show others through my story, how rich their own lives truly are.
