Upon returning to Canada in 1986 he made a pit stop in Toronto and worked on notable Canadian & U.S. television series as "Night Heat", "War of the Worlds" and features such as "The Witches of Eastwick"(Cher) and "Cocktails" (Tom Cruise), before returning to Vancouver where he continued freelancing as an Assistant Director and Unit Production/Location Manager on numerous Vancouver shot television commercials, series and cinema feature films such as "21 Jump Street", "Wise Guy", "Rocky IV", "First Blood" and "The X-Files". Studying for a time with the UK's leading tutor, and Mapex artist Bob Armstrong, by his mid- twenties, Ian was in demand by studios and live bands alike for his musical approach to the kit, and natural, technical control.
