My previous employment has included many years at various summer camps, ultimately ending up as a camp program director. I have worked as a backpacking guide in New Mexico, sold outdoor recreation equipment for several companies, made snow and ran lifts at ski areas, and was an executive director for the Boy Scouts. I also currently volunteer as a high-ropes/challenge course director for the Boy Scouts and am member of the National Ski Patrol. Phillip HortonPhillip was born in Niles, Michigan in 1975 and took an early interest in nature and the outdoors. His early hobbies included stone shaping, wood carving, and building structures out of materials sourced from the surrounding environment. This led to independent studies that included ethnobotany, herbalism, mycology, and primitive skills. Curiosity led him to travel to several of the fifty states in an effort to satisfy his thirst for knowledge and exploration. More recently, however, Phillip has begun exploring options in alternative building practices, sustainable energy production, appropriate technologies, and alternative investment strategies. He has also turned his attention to disseminating information through the vehicle of the internet by writing in several of the mediums available there. Whether you find him backpacking through the temperate rain forests of Oregon, or drifting around on the Gulf of Mexico in the sailboat he calls home, you will soon discover the passion he has to share knowledge and enjoy life.

Ultra light backpacking will help make this possible.

Lori HazelLori is a life long traveler on the path to personal fitness. Some might say she started down the path during her age group competitive swimming days or while playing Little League Softball. Others would tell you it happened when she reached her maximum density and suffered from chronic back and joint pain after her college swimming career came to an end. The when is not as important as the why and how? The why or the importance of personal fitness became significant during her years as a Forester and Fire Manager along with desires to participate in the activities she loves, such as wilderness backpacking and endurance cycling events. While living on an extremely tight budget, she developed a fitness plan and nutritional strategies that enabled her to lose weight and get in shape to meet the physical requirements and demands of her profession and hobbies. Lori has earned certifications as a Fitness Trainer and Cycling Coach, and has experience designing programs to help individuals to lose 50+ pounds, improve their overall health and fitness, complete 100+ mile bike events, marathons, improve competitive swimming skills, to learn and compete in martial arts. When she's not working, she's outside playing Frisbee with her dog, on a day hiking trip or wilderness backpacking adventure, or enjoying a local bike ride.
RJ GouldI retired from a 21-year career in the Navy in the summer of 2008, and moved to the beautiful town of Tehachapi, nestled in the Southern Sierra Mountains between Bakersfield and the Mojave Desert. Over the years I have started a few writing projects, but never had the time to actively pursue serious writing and/or publication projects. With normal civilian life embracing me will a little more free time, I figured that it's time to start exploring some venues of getting my work out. I am a huge outdoors person who enjoys hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, road cycling, sea-kayaking and many other activities. Earlier this year I got started in live theatre by jumping in the deep-end and taking a leading role in a play at the local theatre, which has since led to a second play, 2 short plays and now a stage-manager position.
