I am deeply interested in bicycles, bicycling, and the bicycle lifestyle. I ride more than 100 miles per week to get to work and back. I believe that the bicycle is generally the best form of transportation available in urban areas.
  • John Mercer
John Mercer had worked for almost 12 years in the craft brewing industry in Bend, Oregon. He worked primarily in the fields of water, waste water, utilities, chemicals, project management, safety, capital budgeting and tax credits. In early 2010 he left all of that behind to embark upon a 2 year bicycle tour halfway around the world. He and his partner rode their bicycles from New Zealand to Nepal, visiting 11 countries and riding over 21,000 kms along the way. The trip was unsponsored, so you can be sure of unbiased opinions about the gear. The adventure was a life changing experience for both of them and believe it or not they can’t wait to do it again- with a kid.

I grew up in a classic American suburb of Minneapolis during the 70 s and 80 s -- or at least through the mid 80 s, by the late 80 s I was all grown up and going off to college. One of my earliest memories was when I couldn t have been any older than three, and I announced to my mom that I was going to go outside all by myself. As I stepped out the door on a cool and blustery day I looked up and saw all these large trees with their branches clashing against each other against the grey sky. Well it was all a little to scary for toddler all by himself so I decided that was enough independence for today and I went straight back inside. That was before we moved within the city to a new development on what was previously a cow pasture. Everything was new and all the trees were small and sparse. We had one of the earlier houses to be built on the block, but soon other houses popped up in a flurry of construction in what was at the time, the early 1970 s, a very fast growing suburb. And most of the new homes had young families with kids moving in, much like our own. As a result I benefited from having a large number of peers to play with. I our family photo album there is a picture of a large section of our driveway filled with bicycles our friends had driven to our house. The occasion for their visit was during a period when our home was the home field for the big sport in the neighborhood -- inflateaball. From what I recall, inflateaball was a game that was much like baseball, only instead of using a baseball we used a lightweight basketball sized plastic inflated ball that was hit with a wiffle ball bat. During my early teens I found the rock and folk music of the late 60 s, aka the hippie music generally more appealing than the popular music coming out at the time. Frankly I found there whole lifestyle and clothing rather appealing. I remembered thinking it would have been cool being a teenager during that era.

I am a high school English teacher who loves anything old. My number one hobby is fixing up and driving antique cars. Most people are surprised that a guy who spends the day breaking down Shakespeare for 12th graders can weld and fabricate metalwork. I love music, old movies, antique watches and alarm clocks, reading, antique bicycles, getting outdoors, and hanging out with my wife.
  • MICHAEL SOOS
I am a dynamic figure, often seen scaling walls and crushing ice. I have been known to remodel train stations on my lunch breaks, making them more efficient in the area of heat retention. I translate ethnic slurs for Cuban refugees, I write award-winning operas, I manage time efficiently. Occasionally, I tread water for three days in a row. I woo women with my sensuous and godlike trombone playing, I can pilot bicycles up severe inclines with unflagging speed, and I cook Thirty-Minute Brownies in twenty minutes. I am an expert in stucco, a veteran in love, and an outlaw in Peru. Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, I once single-handedly defended a small village in the Amazon Basin from a horde of ferocious army ants. I play bluegrass cello, I was scouted by the Mets, I am the subject of numerous documentaries. When I'm bored, I build suspension bridges in my yard. I enjoy urban hang gliding. On Wednesdays, after school, I repair electrical appliances free of charge. I am an abstract artist, a concrete analyst, and a ruthless bookie. Critics worldwide swoon over my original line of corduroy evening wear. I don't perspire. I am a private citizen, yet I receive fan mail. I have been caller 'number nine' and have won the weekend passes. Last summer I toured New Jersey with a traveling centrifugal-force demonstration. I bat .400. My deft floral arrangements have earned me fame in international botany circles. Children trust me. I can hurl tennis rackets at small moving objects with deadly accuracy. I once read Paradise Lost, Moby Dick, and David Copperfield in one day and still had time to refurbish an entire dining room that evening. I know the exact location of every food item in the supermarket. I have performed several covert operations for the CIA. I sleep once a week; when I do sleep, I sleep in a chair. While on vacation in Canada, I successfully negotiated with a group of terrorists who had seized a small bakery. The laws of physics

  • Rooster
I've been a professional freelance photographer since 1977. My parents bought a small entertainment publication in 1978 - The Tacoma Review and I became the darkroom grunt. Moving to Texas in the late 70's I began amassing a portfolio of mostly B&W's of what interested me. Through my Mother's advertising connections, (she sold radio advertising for most of our local stations in the Golden Triangle market) I made my rounds. Had the good fortune of landing B&W assignments for The Fair Store (a locally owned chain of department stores) shooting mostly fashion and house ware products for print media. As my name and reputation grew, I begin landing assignments for the preeminent advertising agency in the Golden Triangle area, Ann Lee @ Assoc. My clients included most area hospitals, a retail jewelry chain, political campaigns, Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, Conn's, Gulf States Utilities, etc. My motto at the time was "Shoot exactly what the client asked for and then the way I wanted to shoot it". Before long my shots were chosen more than the shots dictated by the story boards and art directors. This enabled me to grow creatively and garner the trust of my clients to "get the shot". Most of my directions were simple...."Dom, we need a shot to fill this space of....". I was hired in '99 as the Director of Photographic Services at Lamar State University. This continued for several years until state budget cuts eliminated my department. Since then I've been a Carpenter, Professional Musician (bassist), Casino Manager, and most recently Bicycle Flipper. Now at 47 I've rediscovered my long lost love of bicycles. Beginning with some cheap bikes bought locally, customized and sold for profit (little), I've now restored/customized and sold almost twenty. The things that sets my bikes apart is my total commitment to detail and the best photo's of my finished bikes possible.
