I was born in late August a few years ago on the small island of Okinawa in Japan. Wow many people say but it is not all that unusual as both of my parents served in the United States Air Force. Soon after birth we moved to Texas when my little sister was added to the family. Another 2 years another move to our nation's capital Washington DC. It was there that I had the opportunity to spend time with my family in Baltimore, MD and get to know my cousins and prepare for the next move. In 1984 we moved to Aviano Air Force base in Italy. It is here that I began to really experience the world and get an appreciation for other lifestyles. We lived in Italy for four years and again while we were there we added my baby sister to the family. We traveled extensively while there. From Aviano, to Florence, to Milan, to Venice, Rome, even atop the Leaning Tower of Pisa and rang the bell there! I loved the art work, I loved the people, but I especially gained an affinity for Italian food! Lasagna is by far my favorite. While there we also had the chance to see many other sites and cities such as Ramstein in Germany, Eagles Nest in Austria, we even visited some of the most beautiful beaches on the coast of the Mediterranian Sea. I honestly don't have one bad memory from our family adventures in Europe. After our tour there we got our next duty station: Austin, Texas here we come! We were to be stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base (now it is closed) and there we lived for two years. It was great to be back in the United States! I joined the Royal Rangers a small group for boys very similar to the Boy Scouts of America. By the time we were ready to leave there I think that I had finally gotten used to moving every few years as it became "the norm" for me. Next up Andrews Air Force Base, home of Air Force One the President's personal plane. After arriving I felt like it was time for a new challenge! I was extremely happy not just for the new start but also

  • Amber Metcalf
I am a Christian wife and mother. I enjoy homeschooling my two sons, leading an awesome group of Boy Scouts, teaching a Youth class at my church, and spending lots of time with my family. I am an avid reader, and I love to write. I believe the things I value most in life have lost their value to most people in this world. I don't put much stock in earning a high salary, climbing the ladder of success, keeping up with the Jones', or modeling myself after the latest 'it' girl. I value love, honesty, respect, integrity, loyalty, courtesy, compassion...things many people can't even begin to define. I believe as a nation and as a culture we have lost our way.

He says some of the most beautiful things to me. It is a joy to see him always thinking and thinking outside of the box. His imagination is amazing and he is so creative. I have worked with children all of my life and it has been very rewarding for me; whether it be teaching preschool, or doing in home daycare, being a Girl Scout Leader or being a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts. I enjoy writing poetry, and writing other articles. Hope you enjoy my articles.

Later that same year, he began attending Miami University, majoring in Early Childhood Education with a focus in family social work. Since then, he has lived in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Mississippi and learned the ins and outs of many different types of job, each of which offers insights and inspiration for his writing. He has hiked over 8000 miles over the course of his life and in 2006 did almost 2200 of them as a continuous trip. That year he hiked from Georgia to Maine under the moniker of Sir Lancelot the Brave. The trip took nearly six months and offered a lot of perspective in his life. The trip also served as the major inspiration for Hike Not Alone. On returning from the Appalachian Trail, he began researching on Roleplaying Game design, crafting several games. • Michael Parker
Born in Salt Lake City Utah in 1980, I have been active in the community, Boy Scouts of America, and the LDS (Mormon) church my entire life. I have always had great interest in computers and technology. I am currently employed as the Director of IT for a market research firm. In this role I have the opportunity to manage a team of programmers, negotiate IT related contracts, and have the primary responsibility for help desk, networking, database management, telecommunications, programming, and web development. I come from a family of educators. My mother has focused on special education, and so the family maintains a constant discussion centered around the challenges and most important elements of early education. It was likely this focus that pushed me to read as much as I do, and to do well in school. Other interests I have include: camping, sight-seeing, scuba diving, exercise and weight loss, sports, piano and trumpet, fantasy and science fiction novels, and of course writing.

  • Sandra Armenteros
A happily married mother of a rambunctious boy and a furry Maltese, I recently decided to stop complaining about not having enough time to take care of my family and my home. Instead, I will be leaving my job (that I do enjoy- but not enough to choose it over my family) and starting a career in random small jobs that will allow me to be home when the school bell rings. Born and raised in beautiful Hatillo, Puerto Rico, I moved to Lafayette, Indiana to obtain a Bachelor in Arts from Purdue University. After college I married my wonderful husband, moved four times in two years, worked as a project manager, store manager and photographer before joining the Boy Scouts of America. After four years of very rewarding work, I will soon "retire". Waiting for me are many house projects, some translating work, writing, volunteering and enjoying my son.
