DeWayne McCulley (Diabetes Engineer)In March 2002, DeWayne McCulley survived a near-death, diabetic coma with a blood glucose level of 1337 (more than 1200 points above normal); and, lived to tell about it. He credits his recovery to God, his mother, and his daughter Cynthia. DeWayne used his 30 years of experience in engineering and biochemistry to defeat his diabetes and help other diabetics as a volunteer of a diabetic support group for the American Diabetes Association. With support and encouragement from several churches, his mother, and his daughter, DeWayne wrote the top-selling diabetes book, Death to Diabetes (which has helped thousands of diabetics around the world). The book Death to Diabetes explains his diabetes experience, the root causes of diabetes, and how to beat the disease -- based on his 6-stage model, the 5 "super" foods, the 5 "dead" foods/chemicals (to avoid), the 7 wellness factors, and research from more than 200 clinical studies. DeWayne is an engineering graduate of Pennsylvania State University, worked for Hughes Aircraft and Xerox Corp. for 30 years, and was a math tutor volunteer for the Urban League for more than 15 years. DeWayne grew up in a small town in Western Pennsylvania, where he was blessed with strong parents and great teachers, who gave him the hope and the vision to eventually help others. R. LeeI have been a type 1 diabetic for at least 26 years now. The first 21 years I was MDI, and these last 5 years I am on a insulin pump, as well as a cgms system. It has changed my diabetic life considerably. I am active on diabetes forums and feel that it is our responsibility as diabetics to help those just getting diagnosed as well as those who have been diabetic for years and have poor control. This is a priority in my life and I take it seriously. I wish I would have had someone to have helped me 26 years ago.

JeslynkcJeslyn is a health conscious enthusiast who believes strongly in leading a healthy lifestyle. In her teenage years, her mother was diagnosed with diabetes. It was her first, but intimate encounter with an attention grabbing illness. It suddenly dawned upon her how fragile human life can be. Being the eldest child with 2 younger brothers, she had to shoulder the responsibility to take care of them and her mother. Her frequent trips accompanying her mother for routine medical check up were the initiation point for her interest in health and wellness. She spent a lot of time understanding diabetes and soon learnt that it was a predisposition to unwanted weight gain. She was quick to learn that overweight has far wider implication than just losing physical appeal and attractiveness. The list of serious diseases linked to overweight shocked her - from hypertension, coronary heart disease, hyperlipidemia (increased cholesterol level), gout, cancer, and development of osteoarthritis of the weight-bearing joints and increasing risk to gallbladder disease. She has since expanded her interest to many other health and wellness topic including detoxification, exercise, fitness equipment, nutrition, yoga, and others. Coping with diabetes and losing weight safely and naturally are just some of the topics she discussed. She is so passionate about health and wellness that she makes the statement: "Live Well, Live Healthy" her personal motto. Join her and spread the message: Live Well, Live Healthy.
