Guitar Jones is a name that I use that I got from the Cheech y Chong collection (Basketball Jones) and I use it for an Artist name to imply virtuosity. I was born in NYC, NY on November 26, 1957. My first home was near Harlem and about 50ft. from the Hudson Bay. My parents split up and I had learning difficulties because they arranged for me to receive brain surgery in 1962. Our next home was at 1835 Wasatch Dr. in SLC, UT. It was a duplex across the street from Joe Perry and his family. I first tried to join the school band in 4th Grade when I rented a clarinet. The teacher wouldn t accept and I couldn t identify any reasons that the school would do this at that time. I couldn t recall the surgery and didn t see any reason for me to be inferior. This happened to my swim racing experience at the Fort Douglas Country Club, also. My parent had a, Honorary Membership to the club in about 66 and the swim coach there, Tom Thorum, couldn t stop picking on me because I was too slow. Instead of rewarding me for attending workouts he told me to get out of the pool at about the time High School was starting. He was the coach for The East High (Deaf Leopards) and he said my help there wouldn t be needed. In about 1980, I started to recover from stupidity and learned the piano and guitar quickly. At that time, I met Brian Vizzard and Paul Michel in the San Francisco Bay Area. Brian gave me the right kind of guitar and Paul s father worked for Capitol Records. The guitars my mother bought before that didn t work. The University of Utah guitar teacher, Tom Baron, didn t have the Rock and Roll guitar sound either. I met Tom in about 1969 and Larry Hansen in about 1975 - he was the first person I met that sounded like a Rocker. I spoke with him frequently at length at his home and got all kinds of advice about how to play. In about 1976, Steven R. Urie invited me to play guitar with him - he had a drum set and I saw him play at a Cowboy Bar. I sang at two concerts in the Bay Area.
