  • Sophy Laughing
Hi! My name is Sophy Laughing. I changed my last name to 'Laughing' because that's how I want to spend the rest of my life, how I want to leave the world, As my name suggests, I believe there is great wisdom in humor. The beauty of comedy is its subjectivity. There's something for everyone. It ranges from the sublime to the ridiculous, from the confidence of youth to the sobering central period of life, to the early luncheons hosted by silver-haired ladies, to one's ability to embrace Cicero's greatest contribution to the world, On A Life Well Spent. The lethal effects of life have affected me, but nothing as much as humor. Humor is an innovative solution, once you can find a problem to go with it. There's much to be explored in the field of humor, from the physics of humor, to humor's ability to heal the mind and the body, both. Humor lassos up eastern and western thought, and propels us back to the beginning of time. Ancient hieroglyphic symbols for laughing and jokes were shared thousands of years ago. There are biblical references to laughing, the Greek city-states inherited a tradition of professional humor from the Hitties, the pompous, bridge-building toga wearing Roman's, The Laughter Lover, dating back to the third or fourth century AD, contains some 260 jokes on stereotypes - the 'Å"egghead', or absent-minded professor, was particularly funny, as was the eunuch, and people with hernias or bad breath. I can hear Homer's gods from the Iliad, laughing now... From Chaucer to King Alfred to Shakespearian lines so lovely they make the senses tingle, the worlds' recognition of humor reflects the genius beheld in the levitational farce field. Henri Bergson, Immanuel Kant, Soren Kierkegaard, and even Freud recognized the power held in making others laugh. Jean-Paul Satre said that making people laugh 'Å"saved (his) life.' Being able to laugh saved my life!
  • Hunter Darden
Hunter's first endeavor in the writing field began with a mystery book entitled "The Secret of the Old Oak Tree." Unfortunately, it was bound in yellow construction paper-the finest binding a fourth grader with a vision could create. Shortly after, her teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. She announced,"I'm going to be an author!" Hunter didn't know then that her youthful dreams would not be realized for thirty long years........ Hunter's most valuable lessons about life were learned through her parents. Her father, with his humble nature, taught her about character and strength in spirit. Her mother, with her enthusiasm for life, taught her that anything is possible if you have the drive and the will to succeed. Hunter went to Meredith College and graduated with a B.A. in psychology.Hunter had two boys who became the focal point for her life. Her writing took a backseat to life and its commitments. She did not realize that her inspiration was close at hand. Hunter's father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at the age of fifty-six. He died after a nine year illness. Hunter was thrown into the most common position of explaining the reality of death and the concept of eternal life to her children. As a catharsis, she resorted to her most natural instinct. Hunter, at last being completely inspired, began to write. All the ingredients were in place, along with the love and guidance from her family. After thirty years, these had culminated into her first book, The Everlasting Snowman, a story of the cycle of life.It is an inspirational book for children, With its beautiful watercolor artwork, it explains that the natural cycle of life goes on and on. This book was the catalyst that started the writing career for which Hunter had always dreamed. She has since written four more children's books, a novel, and a photography book. In addition, she has also been a humor/inspiration columnist. Hunter feels that it was all well worth the wait..
