For a Texan, I do one heck of a Russian accent. Actually, I can also deliver a pretty good Shakespearean accent too...at least, that's what my ninth graders tell me. I teach ninth grade English and art, and when I'm not reading "The Most Dangerous Game" or "Romeo and Juliet" for the umpteenth time, I'm usually doing something to stretch my visual creativity...or I'm eating Mexican food (Hey! I'm from Texas...that's a requirement!) When I'm not in the classroom, I'm usually hitting the rivers here in Texas in my kayak. I'm a level one kayaking instructor and I take folks on guided river trips and give Intro to Kayaking classes on the weekends. I love being out in nature...almost as much as I love Mexican food. At home, if I'm not painting or drawing something, I'm usually either curled up with a romance novel or trying out a new recipe in the kitchen...be it sour cream chicken enchiladas, taco soup, or just a mean cup of queso. (Are you noticing a trend here?) Last, but certainly not least, I'm the awesome owner of three of the cutest and most spoiled dogs you've ever met. Yeah, I'm one of those crazy single ladies that adopts dogs like Angelina Jolie adopts babies. But coming home to them is truly the best part of my day...oh, that and eating Mexican food ;-)

  • Shelly Jackson
I was born and raised in California when the Northern part of the state was farm fields and wild flowers. In my youth I remember collecting flowers for my mother outside the bull pen (down a dirt road), playing hide and seek with neighborhood friends, and building forts. Over the last 20 years I have worked as a manager in everything from retail to casinos. In 2006, I went back to school and obtained my Associates Degree in Business then continued with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology. I am currently working on a Doctoral degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology with University of Phoenix. When my degree is complete I would like to teach Psychology at the college level and run a psychology lab. My range of life experience extends over raising my sons the last 23 years, coaching soccer, volunteer work, and working in the church. When I am not working I enjoy exploring and kayaking. My hobbies include painting, decorating, sewing, crafting, genealogy, antiques, and reading. On the side I study brain mapping, world religions, and culture on my own as well as though college classes. We have three dogs all mixed breeds, a king snake, a leopard gecko, and a mouse (the one the snake didn’t eat). I believe that the United States is an amazing country that is still full of opportunities although we have to work harder to find those opportunities.

I am a humanist and a free thinker who sees through the political left/right paradigm. • Geoffrey Taylor
Geoffrey Taylor is a 30 something living in Small Town America, on the West Coast of Florida to be more precise. He loves cycling, golf, football and really, really wants to get into the sport of Kayaking. I have an interest in politics, and that really just consists of watching the news and yelling at the TV. However, I do that a whole bunch, so I would say I have a pretty dedicated interest in the matter. I am also interested in the education matters that the USA feels like they are facing today. I am confused by it. I came from public schools and went to a public university, so I believe that our education system is adequate, but I am not sure that a 4 year degree should be a requirement for everyone. Professionally, I have worked in the Car Rental industry in the past, and I bring a wealth of knowledge on that subject.

  • LJ Vick
As a born and raised Vancouverite, the flavour and culture of the west coast and mountains runs deep within me. I now live in the beautiful Okanagan area of British Columbia, on a large acreage in a custom log home my husband and I built. We live off-grid, our home powered by solar and are actively engaged in a sustainable lifestyle. Outdoor sports and activities have always played a large role in my life. I hold professional certificates in the equestrian world as a coach/trainer and my students have competed and won at the provincial and national level. I have been active in the horse world for the better part of 30 years. A lifelong passion for skiing led me to earn my instructor's certification with the Canadian Ski Instructor's Alliance. Backcountry pursuits including ski touring, climbing, mountaineering, snowmobiling and hiking round out my mountain interests. On the water, sea kayaking is a favourite, with several multi-day expedition trips to the wild west coast completed. I hold a Canadian Power and Sail Squadron boating certificate and enjoy power boating during the summer with our 21' bowrider. An active gardener, organic and permaculture principles are important to me. As parents with a now empty nest, we have recently become Wwoofer hosts (World Wide Organization of Organic Farmers) to meet and enjoy the mutually beneficial assistance of Wwoofers who visit from around the world. I am not particularly good, nor interested in fashion and makeup - unless it's the latest and greatest technical gear or lip balm that defies salt water. That pretty much sums me up, thanks for reading!

  • RJ Gould
I retired from a 21-year career in the Navy in the summer of 2008, and moved to the beautiful town of Tehachapi, nestled in the Southern Sierra Mountains between Bakersfield and the Mojave Desert. Over the years I have started a few writing projects, but never had the time to actively pursue serious writing and/or publication projects. With normal civilian life embracing me will a little more free time, I figured that it's time to start exploring some venues of getting my work out. I am a huge outdoors person who enjoys hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, road cycling, sea-kayaking and many other activities. Earlier this year I got started in live theatre by jumping in the deep-end and taking a leading role in a play at the local theatre, which has since led to a second play, 2 short plays and now a stage-manager position. I have discovered a strong interest in theatre!
