  • Michelle Alaimo
I'm a Communication Specialist (PIO) for a local school district and a freelance reporter who lives in San Jose, CA with my three children. I began working in education 11 years ago because of my love of working as a local newspaper reporter covering the education, crime, and local news beat. After graduating from San Jose State University in 1997 with a Bachelors in Journalism, I went straight to work as an education and crime reporter for Silicon Valley Community Newspapers(formally Metro Newspapers). Education reporting sparked my desire to work in a school district and in 2001, I began working at the Metropolitan Education District. As MetroED's Communication Specialist (PIO) I'm responsible for the district's press releases, newsletters, and most of the flyers and serve as the media contact for the district. I'm also responsible for the employee intranet, Facebook, My Space, and LinkedIn websites. For nine years I volunteered my time at my children's elementary school putting their yearbook together. As Yearbook Coordinator, I was in charge of all aspects of the yearbook: layout, editing, coordinating, training, and coordinating pictures. I have 3 children and have learned to stretch my budget by using coupons and entering (and winning) contests and sweepstakes. The wins provide my family with free tickets to movies and events that otherwise are not affordable on a tight budget. From time to time, I provide freelance publicity services to others and write freelance articles. Currently on the Yahoo Contributor Network, I'm working on the Yahoo Local project. For this project, I write 100-300 word "blogs" seven days a week about San Jose, Campbell, Mountain View, Milpitas, Palo Alto, and Sunnyvale.
