  • Abdul W. Hakim
Abdul W. Hakim, a long-time community servant who started organizing in the community at age 2O developing and coordinating youth activities and programs to help instill a sense of purpose and mission in our youth, challenging them to contribute to their communities. Abdul began to organize on behalf of community issues in the late 80s when a local Park was drug-infested with no facility granting youth an alternative. While going door-to door signing neighborhood kids up for a youth club he founded, We Are The Chosen, parents expressed despair over not being able to bring their children to the local park playground because of the drug and loitering problem. Abdul organized a group of parents and went to the Village Hall to protest the conditions there. Being asked to be the spokesperson, Abdul presented a plan to remedy the situation. This effort resulted in dramatic changes at the Park over the ensuing years that lasts until today. Established as a community activist and organizer, as well as being ordained and appointed the community liaison minister of his local church, Abdul began to see the need to work with and organize on behalf of various political campaigns over the years to bring about needed change, eventually making him into a successful political organizer. Abdul organized and led successful issue campaigns over the years including winning the demolition of a building that housed an illegal nightclub, and a store that sold alcohol to minors to get the village to build affordable housing in it's place. In 1993, Abdul helped organize a city-wide protest in Richmond, Va. and became the spokesperson causing the City of Richmond to reverse it's decision to eliminate Sunday Bus services. Abdul has organized and sat on numerous community boards, as well as worked with state and national organizations interested in positive change. Involved in many community and political activities throughout the years, Abdul maintained his passion f

Through a strange epiphany I have come to associate Organized Labor with individual spiritual belief. Through this association I have been able to discover a new form of union organizing; the third form of organizing but more importantly, I have discovered this new form of organizing actually leads to self-perfection; a complete evolution with and from one's own everyday existence.
  • Sinea Pies
Sinea has been an organizing enthusiast almost forever. In her roles as school administrator, marketing executive and mom, she has found organizing to hold a number one truth: clutter leads to chaos. Chaos hinders productivity and clogs up the pathway to success. Therefore, clutter must go! In addition to enjoying orderly living, Sinea is an avid baseball fan (go Yankees!), student of diet & nutrition, dog lover of mega proportions and especially loves God and family. Her children, grandchildren and, yes, great grandchildren are her delight. Writing is a passion and a joy. So, she writes! Visit her blog: www.ducksnarow.com

  • leslie jacobs
Getting organized is not an easy task'¦unless you're Leslie Jacobs. With a knack for knick-knacks (as in 'œget rid of them!'), and an inability to contain her love of containers, Leslie is the master of her organizing domain. Leslie has owned the professional organizing company Les is More since 2001. In the 10 years that she's been helping others achieve order in their lives, she has accomplished what takes others decades to do. In addition to several mentions in The Hartford Courant's Java column, and being quoted for national organizing stories on Entrepreneur.com and MSN.com, Ms. Jacobs has a list (as an organizer, she's a big fan of lists) of many other career credits. She's had successful television appearances on The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch (CNBC); Better (nationally syndicated); Better CT (CBS CT affiliate); and many other morning shows. She's also appeared on many national radio shows including the Colin McEnroe show, and the Ray Dunaway show. With a dynamic personality and unique approach to a mundane job, Leslie gained national recognition when Guideposts and Parenting Magazine included feature articles about her and her organizing game: Les Mess. When she's not being featured in magazines, she is contributing her own articles on organizing to publications such as Guideposts, Home Living CT (Hartford Magazine), and her organizing column in The New Britain City Journal. Leslie Jacobs is one of the most in-demand organizers in the country'"and now she's a sought after speaker as well. She has spoken at Mitchell College, many Chamber of Commerce events, and various other functions across the country. Her organizing speeches are so impactful that she is already booking up for 2012, which includes an engagement with a Texas home-schooling group. Leslie has created the only card organizing game in the world called Les Mess. It encourages children to get organized at an early age while making it fun for them. Her philosophy is that with
