  • LJ Vick
As a born and raised Vancouverite, the flavour and culture of the west coast and mountains runs deep within me. I now live in the beautiful Okanagan area of British Columbia, on a large acreage in a custom log home my husband and I built. We live off-grid, our home powered by solar and are actively engaged in a sustainable lifestyle. Outdoor sports and activities have always played a large role in my life. I hold professional certificates in the equestrian world as a coach/trainer and my students have competed and won at the provincial and national level. I have been active in the horse world for the better part of 30 years. A lifelong passion for skiing led me to earn my instructor's certification with the Canadian Ski Instructor's Alliance. Backcountry pursuits including ski touring, climbing, mountaineering, snowmobiling and hiking round out my mountain interests. On the water, sea kayaking is a favourite, with several multi-day expedition trips to the wild west coast completed. I hold a Canadian Power and Sail Squadron boating certificate and enjoy power boating during the summer with our 21' bowrider. An active gardener, organic and permaculture principles are important to me. As parents with a now empty nest, we have recently become Wwoofer hosts (World Wide Organization of Organic Farmers) to meet and enjoy the mutually beneficial assistance of Wwoofers who visit from around the world. I am not particularly good, nor interested in fashion and makeup - unless it's the latest and greatest technical gear or lip balm that defies salt water. That pretty much sums me up, thanks for reading!
  • Gail Hunter
Gail rushed in where angels feared to tread. The result? A smorgasbord of adventure and learning whether on land, sea or in the air. A strong curiosity has been her compass. A competitive athlete, she served in many executive capacities for sailing and golf associations. Gail graduated from Wellesley College with a BA degree in Art History and Modern Architecture. A designer and builder of solar houses, she served as secretary of the Connecticut Renewable Energy Association in the 1970s. Married to a lawyer for forty years, then widowed, she is mother to three, grandmother to 13, and great grandmother to one. In the 1990s, she moved to Florida and became a group travel agent and escort. The Venice Gondolier and the Brandon News carried Gail's travel articles. She also wrote newsletters for GM Travel (The Pied Piper) in Venice, FL and AAA (Active Vacations) in Sarasota. In 1997, she married a fellow boater, a widower. Together, they chronicled several coastal cruises on the Internet; one for the Suncoast Media Group; others were their own photo-logs of Intracoastal cruises on their trawler and land-based trips in their motor home. Now curtailed by the recurring effects of Post-Polio syndrome, Gail is happy to be home again in Burlington, Vermont, where she relishes writing about things she can no longer do. She is also busy, and thoroughly enjoying, digitalizing 50 years of 35mm slides.

  • David Belden
I'm an entrepreneur working in Clean Tech. My latest project has been starting a site dedicated to educating home owners about residential solar energy. The site is http://www.residentialsolar101.org and while I do blog on that site, I thought I'd also write some content for AC as well. I could not find a good resource for home owners to read about the ins and outs of home solar power, so that was my inspiration. I want to make Residential Solar 101 the go-to site for home owners who are considering solar power.
