Leigh WhittenIn 2000, I married a wonderful man. I had two beautiful little girls from a previous marriage that ended in disaster. My husband adopted my daughters after we married. In 2001, I graduated cum laude from Mississippi State University with a degree in Secondary Education-English. I taught two years in Mississippi, but the pay and the insurance is not motivation to stay. I was called by a school in Alabama and was offered a job at the interview. With much hesitation, I took it. During my three years there, my daddy died of cancer in 2005, and nine months later, I gave birth to a beautiful and precious baby boy. It was my tenure year and had all indications that I was to be given tenure because my scores were great and had been given assignments for the fall. We bought a beautiful house, but due to a new coaching staff, I was not given tenure. Needless to say, the teachers, students, parents, and community were outraged; it was a mess, but that is Alabama schools. I had to go back to Mississippi and live with my mother, which was a nightmare. We tried selling our new home, but the market fell out. I finally found a position near our home and applied. Out of fifty-five applicants, I acquired the job, which had to be God. I was given the "Teacher of the Year" my first year by the NJHS. Test scores were great, but my second year, two days before school was out, I was informed that my contract was non-renewed. Even though the paper said it was due to proration, I was told otherwise by someone inside that a non-certified coach may be replacing me; it figures-it's Alabama schools. So, here I am again-job searching. Teaching positions are slim, but I have wonderful husband and kids, and above all the disappointment and doubt, I know that God will make a way.

Jim Van AllanBelieve. Whether that be in yourself or a cause, have a belief in something. I believe in the power of communication, rhetoric, and nonverbals. From the beginning of time to the present day, our communication skills have defined us as societies. We must never get away from the personal touch of human communication. I am a Master's student and Graduate Teaching Assistant at Florid Atlantic University, and I absolutely love to teach and working with students. If you tailor your class appropriately and find new and exciting ways to breakthrough to your students- the learning possibilites are endless. I love to be outdoors, work out, run, bike ride, and go to the beach or pool. While living in Florida, all that is possible on the same day. I enjoy a good movie and an entertaining TV show (Lost, The Office, Seinfeld, Friday Night Lights). I also trust in the power of positive thinking. You can zap yourself out of any funk with taking a positive outlook on your situation.
