  • Matt Mertes
Matthew C. Mertes was born in Rosenberg, Texas on December the 12th, 1985. His parents Mike and Lori Mertes, moved to Fairbanks, Alaska when he was five and brought along a younger brother, Christopher, three years old and little sister, Shannon who was one. Later when Matt was ten he would have another little sister, Colleen. As a young boy Matt would daydream and make up stories to entertain his friends and family, that is where his love of story telling had begun. His love of writing stems from his lack of preparedness and finesse while trying to speak with the opposite gender, in other words he was shy. Well he found that with a well crafted and meaningful letter he could express himself while still retaining his natural grace and eloquence which eluded him from time to time. In college Matt took many creative writing courses and excelled at writing Science Fiction and Fantasy genres as well as some Mystery short stories. Now, he can still be found in his home town where he lives with his beautiful and brilliant wife Amanda and their little dog too, Gridword. He is working on publishing his first book and set of short stories, Matt is also a contibuter to this site and many others like it. Matt's long time friend Hagen Billy are collaberating on a new web comic, they hope will debut in 2012. When he is not writing, you can find Matt on the slopes at one of the downhill ski areas around town. An avid snowboarder, he loves to try and go as often as he can. That is Matthew C. Mertes in a nutshell, writer, boarder, husband, son, brother, friend and all around happy and fun guy.

"Life Full of Miracles" best describes my life as a wife, mom, and nurse. Nothing has ever come easy for me, but the end results have always been leaps and bounds above and beyond what I could ever have expected! I had cancer at 25, never thought I would have children. Met and married an amazing man, who proved I was wrong... at least most of the time. We conceived on 9/11 and had identical twin boys only 6 months later. We lost the oldest and smallest twin at a month of age, did CPR for nearly 40 mins and got him back! Thinking he would be in a persistent vegetative state, our docs tried to let him die... but we wouldn't let that happen. We fought for life saving heart surgery and won. Today he and his twin are 9 and kicking butt on the slopes, in Taekwondo, and at school! They are smart, bright, beautiful, and loving people~ true gifts from God! My daughter was born 4 years after the boys and reminds us why we need a sense of humor! She is quick witted and sharp! She is only four now, but runs the house like she were 40! I worked as a legal nurse consultant for the last ten years, only to move to Colorado where everything is God's Will... no one sues anyone here. Not good for business. So, I am back in school pursuing a nurse practitioner degree. Hoping that I can once again share my passion for caring and assisting others to gain their greatest health potential.

A cottager at heart, I love hanging out on the water and spend my summers wakeboarding and waterskiing. In the winter I hit the slopes.

I am the founder of FindandGoSeek.net, a hyperlocal destination for families to discover what to see and do in their community. I am also the Editorial Director, aka Miss Magpie, of northern Vermont's Find&GoSeek. As a compulsive fun seeker, Miss Magpie, is out there taking copious notes on what her family encounters. Think of me as your eyes, your ears, your finger on the pulse of what are must see, must do things. Prior to starting FindandGoSeek, I spent 10 years in marketing for large computer companies such as Dell, Novell and Sun Microsystems. When I am not finding fun for my family and yours, I can be found on the ski slopes, hiking with my chocolate lab or gardening.

My love of skiing and adventure brought me to the mountains of Colorado in my late twenties. As soon as I drove over the mountain pass into Steamboat Springs, I was hooked. I bought a ski pass immedialely and quickly settled into a job in property management. The never ending sunshine and abundant recreational opportunities have kept me here. My husband and I live with our baby daugher in a little condo overlooking the ski slopes. At the moment, I am taking some time off of work to stay at home and raise my daughter. I love being a mom. Everyday is a new adventure.

I am a resident of the UK, and am currently living in the beautiful city of Oxford. I, like many of us men love the latest gadgets and boys toys, a cold beer or two with my mates and of course football. But my real passions are good food, good wine and travel. If I can I try to combine all three at once. I hope you'll enjoy my honest reviews of the latest gadgets, food, drink and travel experiences, from ski slopes, to city breaks to sun drenched beaches.

Inca Trail The roads varied in quality and size. In the flatlands and highlands the roads ran from 6-8 meters wide, while in the steep mountains the stone roads narrowed to one meter, but were deft at defying the aggressive steep slopes of the Andes.
