  • Vanessa Miller
I was born and raised in the small city of Santa Maria, CA. I have always been a very outgoing and energetic child and have always liked to write and play basketball. At the age of 10, I was diagnosed with a rare disease called Myasthenia Gravis. All within the same year, two of my uncles died (one from AIDS and one from congestive heart failure), my mother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and my closest grandmother suffered from a debilitating stroke. Despite the turmoil, I used my disadvantages to my advantage and still excelled in school. I attended Santa Maria High School where I participated in the AVID program and graduated top of my class. Directly after high school, I was accepted to UCLA where I obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology with a Minor Specialization in English. During this time, I also had my first beautiful daughter. After living in Los Angeles for nearly four and a half years, I moved back to my hometown, Santa Maria. I begin working for Oilfield Environmental and Compliance (my current job) where I started as a glassware washer and worked my way up to project manager in six months. Currently I am attending Brandman University and obtaining my Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and I just recently had my second daughter. In the near future, I plan to open a private practice where I will work primarily with people with illnesses, children, and couples. I also want to work part-time as a professor and write both fiction and non-fiction books.
