  • Allison OBrien
Allison O'Brien, an At-Home mom of three from Glen Mills, Pa. and a fitness enthusiast. Since my youth I have been interested in health, fitness and working with children. I played many different sports and started lifting weights and working at gyms in High School. I grew up in a family of educators, so going to college for Elementary Education was a natural fit. I earned my certificate in Personal Fitness Training and was ready to combine my educations with my passion....to help children and teenagers gain a healthy mind set about their bodies. I have been happily sharing my knowledge and experiences for the past three years through volunteering coaching youth sports, specifically focusing on fitness and health training.

I'm your run of the mill NBA fan with a modern approach to the game, which some of the old school die-hards may not appreciate but I strive only to spark an intellectual debate. I personally believe in the utilization of these "Apebear stats" or simply Advanced Stats. That said, I readily admit the fact that the game is simply too intricate to completely boil down to a system of linear weights. As such Im open to hearing any valid input as to what the stats are missing and why they favor or expose a certain athlete/team. What I am not interested in are cliche ridden rebuttals that completely dismiss the use of stats because they do not further their agenda.

  • Daly Miranda
How many times have you wondered why that police officer pulled you or someone you know over, or asked certain questions during a contact, or maybe made an odd request? Well, I'm here to give you the inside on how a police officer thinks. I have been a polce officer in Orange County, California for the past 12 years. I have worked a variety of assignments, including SWAT, gang detective, narcotics detective, field training officer, and I was recently promoted to a field supervisor. I still to this day experience something that I've never seen or heard before in my career. I want to give my audience the birds eye view of law enforcement, the raw and ghoury details of our job. I can tell you exactly what an officer is thinking and I can even help you out in maybe escaping a ticket, or winning in court. I want to give the inside and hopefully give my audience a better understanding of law enforcement and eliminate the rumors, stereotypes, and lies. But, I'm also going to be the first one to admit when an officer is in the wrong, there's nothing i hate more than someone who tarnishes my badge, or casts a shadow over the law enforcement community. If that happens, or shall I say when that happens, I'm gonna lay you out to everyone and expose your wrongdoing. I want to have open forums where my audience can have questions answered and also can blog about the latest law enforcement news. I have several other interests that I intend on writing about. I am very much into fitness and eating healthy. I enjoy running, lifting weights, and playing sports such as baseball, football, and golf. Although, at my age, I'm more of a spectator now, I keep abreast of the latest sports news and I am addicted to fantasy football. I hope to always entertain my audience with my current interests, any other interests I have, or develop, and I promise to always maintain open lines of communication, to keep an open mind, and to speak from an unbiased and fair standpoint. Enjoy!!

Hailing from the humble boxing town of Scranton, Pa., I began my fitness journey in the ring. At the ingenuous age of 13, I charged into the gymnasium where all the boxers worked out and asked to be trained. They refused. I skipped school and hung around that dingy, smelly gym and jumped rope with the guys. I shadowboxed. I learned the speed bag. They relented and showed me the ropes (if you will). After a visit from the truant officers, my trainer declared he could no longer train me. He encouraged me to become a model. I went back to school but found an afternoon trainer. My training partner Jesse showed me the weight room. I fell in love (with the weights, not Jesse). I forayed onto the basketball court and learned to play street ball complete with egregious fouls, head bashing and knockdowns. I was the only girl in the place. I found solace and inspiration in that gym for five hours every school day. Thus began my lifelong passion for fitness. When I was 17, I saw a help wanted ad for a fitness instructor at a local gym. I knew this position was for me. I had feverishly studied every book available on weight training. Even my macho buddies from the tiny boxing weight room had begun to ask my advice on lifting. I sprang into action, enlisted a friend to drive me, and excitedly filled out the application. They told me I was too young. Seeing my abject disappointment, my friend later went back and pleaded my case. They countered that I had to be 18. Eventually I turned 18. I returned to that gym on my birthday. They gave me a job. I weighed and measured all the prospective members. I showed them the machines. I taught classes. I sold memberships. I would happily have worked for nothing and lived there. I had found my home. In between workouts, I went to the University of Scranton to study English. I worked part-time in any gym that would have me. As I accumulated fitness certifications and my knowledge based increased, I shared this with my fitness students.

In the summer of 2007, I was diagnosed with an advanced case of Lyme's disease. My body changed drastically. Throughout my entire life I was always naturally strong and athletic, but Lyme's disease changed that. In a short 2-month span, I dropped 25 pounds. I was bedridden for a month with both knees swollen, unable to do any physical activity. Eventually I recovered, just before starting my senior year of high school. I was still greatly underweight and suffering extreme muscle atrophy. It took over a year of careful exercising and a closely-monitored diet before regaining my muscle tone and endurance. Today, as a sophomore in college, I've intensified my efforts to stay healthy. I exercise daily with a mix of cardio and weights, and I'm back to a healthy weight. I started WorkoutYou.info as a place to document the techniques and cost-saving measures I've discovered during my recovery and daily exercise plan. Specifically: · Low-cost workouts. As a college student, I have a strict budget, so I've found creative ways to work out while minimizing what I spend on equipment. · Efficient eating. It's all too easy to get into bad eating habits, especially when in college or at a desk job. I have several tips for eating healthy, while keeping an eye on costs (and taste!). · Exercise planning. It's hard enough to find time to work out. A workout schedule is key to getting maximum results from all that hard work. I found some techniques that have worked well for me, and I share those here. I hope that the information I share helps others looking to stay healthy in the most time-efficient and cost-efficient ways.
