Cap'n StephenAlthough my first mate reminds me that I m only really captain of myself, I ve been on the water since I was 12 -- somewhere back in the last millennium. Currently Assistant District Service Officer for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary (D7-Publications) and National Branch Chief - (BC-BLU), the Auxiliary s national liaison to United States Power Squadron. The Coast Guard Auxiliary and United States Power Squadrons collaborate on matters related to Recreational Boating Safety and Boater Education. The Cap’s partner for our wine columns (did anyone say “Partner-in-Wine”?) is a graceful, elegant lady whom we shall dub “The Wine Chick.” Her adventures into wine began 12 years ago, when she joined a wine club (I.W.A.G.Y. – It Was A Good Year) that met regularly in the wine cellar of the world-famous Culinary Institute of America (the C.I.A. you wouldn’t mind joining), the acclaimed training school for many of the world’s finest chefs. Each lecture focused on some aspect of wine, followed by a guided tasting of 12 wines, usually 6 whites and 6 reds. The wines were presented blindly, so that she never knew which wine she was tasting, nor the price of the wine. Instead, she learned the “art” of wine tasting. Over time, as her interest and knowledge in wine grew, she began a quest to broaden her experience of wine. Eventually, that quest took her and her partner to many vineyards across Italy, Australia, New Zealand, and the US. As her partner went on to become certified as a Sommelier by the Court of Masters, together they hosted frequent tastings at their home to compare various varietals, vintages, and styles of wine. So, follow our wine columns as The Wine Chick shares her wine experience with you—she’ll help you get more out of your next bottle of wine than just the wine.
Kellie Stargaard AKA Wine Chicks GuideI'm just a wine chick trying to catch a break. Great wines don't have to come with a heavy price tag. Wine Chicks Guide is a wine blog focusing on inexpensive yet good and sometimes bad wines. I'll seek out the great tasting affordable wines as well as share my experience with the wines you may want to avoid. In today's economy the everyday wine drinker is forced to follow an affordable wine budget. Follow me and my trials and tribulations in my quest to find great tasting inexpensive wines.

winehikerI'm Russ Beebe, owner of California Wine Hikes Guided Tours. Being outdoors most of my life, I've learned a great many things about wilderness ethics, trip planning, group dynamics, reading the land and the weather, and I've developed a passion - and a palate - for fine wine. There's a wonderful intersection between the natural world and wine that I find refreshingly remarkable and, whether it's identifying a bird or a tree or discussing the nuances of wine tasting, I'll tell you this much: the winehiking experience sure seems to resonate with people. Throughout my journeys, I've discovered that people really love to combine an outdoor experience with a healthy meal and California's finest wines. As a result, I created California Wine Hikes so that I could guide wine lovers and adventurers from around the world to these same rejuvenating and memorable experiences.
