Advocacy Group Says Comcast Should Provide FCC With ProgramComcast (CMCSA) shares are lower after Washington-based Media Access Project--an advocacy group--said that the U.S. Federal Communications Commission should demand the cable giant supply the FCC with contracts to carry other companies' programs since 2006, Bloomberg reported. The FCC is set to vote on Comcast's acquisition of NBC Universal from General Electric (GE). The Justice Department must also sign off on the deal. Comcast shares are down 0.6%, or $0.14, to $21.94.

Wireless Usage Up Dramatically; CTIA, FCC Call For Freeing UThe Wireless Association, or CTIA, released its bi-annual survey of wireless carriers and subscriber trends today at the organization's industry event in Orlando, Florida.The study found that, from January to December 2010, wireless data traffic rose by 110%, while MMS and text messaging increased 64% and 31%, respectively. The number of smartphones active in 2010 was 78.2 million, up 57% from year ago levels, while wireless-enabled devices, such as tablets and laptops, increased 14.2% from year-end 2009 to 13.6 million from 11.9 million.CTIA's president and CEO Steve Largent said during his keynote speech that, with rapid increases in smartphone use and growing demand, the U.S. wireless industry needs more spectrum to supply that demand.He said, "Whether it's sending a text, making a phone call or accessing the wireless Internet, the facts prove our industry continues to offer innovative and competitive services and products that consumers love and are using more than ever. Comcast, Zoom Telephonics Reach Settlement in Cable Modems DComcast (CMCSA) and Zoom Telephonics (ZMTP) today announce that they have reached a settlement regarding their dispute over cable modems. The companies have filed a joint motion to dismiss the complaint that ZMTP filed last November with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The dispute involved the testing of ZMTP's cable modems intended for sale to consumers at retail outlets and the ability of users to attach those modems to CMCSA's network. Both companies agree that the resolution of their dispute will further consumer choice in the cable modem marketplace. CMCSA shares are down 0.94% to $25.32.
