"A fire that has engulfed at least 10 stories of a 28-story building in Shanghai has killed 42 and injured dozens more. Some residents have been seen jumping from their windows to escape the smoke and blaze.The skyscraper in the Jing'an District of the Chinese city was being renovated when building materials caught on fire at 2pm local time (1am ET) and quickly spread across the scaffolding. The building housed many retired teachers.The fire appeared to have been put out six hours later with 80 firetrucks on site. The city government said in a statement that 100 people were rescued from the now-gutted building, but it is unclear if this figure includes the 90 people news agency Xinhua reported were hurt in the fire."
