Subway Explosion in Moscow Caused by Suicide Bombers

This morning in Moscow, two female terrorists were responsible for suicide bombings in a busy subway station. The subway station was located just beneath a building that houses the main offices of the federal security service. The explosions occurred within 45 minutes of each other killing at least 37 people and injuring over 100 people. The incident took place during rush hour and started just before 8:00AM. The first blast happened at the Lubyanka metro station. The second one was at the Park Kultury metro station with both incidents taking place in central Moscow.

The bodies of both female terrorists have already been discovered one of which was decapitated and the other was found mostly in tact and appears to be of older decent. Both women however appear to be from the North Caucauses region. It is assumed that both women were wearing belts with explosives attached to them and the bombs were controlled with remotes.

The president of Russia Dmitry Medvedev has not yet made a statement regarding the situation at hand. This is not the first time that Russia has suffered such an attack. The last confirmed terrorist attack on Moscow occurred back in August of 2004. A suicide bomber blew him-self up outside of a city subway station killing a total of 10 people.

U.S president Barack Obama has extended his condolences to the people of Russia and the New York Police department is stepping up their subway security as a precaution. A press spokesperson of the mayor confirmed today that tomorrow has been declared a day of mourning in Moscow for those who were killed in today's subway attacks.
