The subway system is so crowded. It can be so uncomfortable especially when the temperature is heating up inside the cars during the warmer months. Sometimes subway cars can be hotter then outside. I am writing some suggestions on how to make your subway ride cooler and more enjoyable for everyone by following some rules of conduct that will help keep tempers down in the hot weather.
When you see an elderly person or pregnant women stand up and give them your seat. We have to watch out them in the heat and this is one way to help them when they are more prone to heat exhaustion.
We know you love your music but in the morning could you turn it down.
Some people are still waking up and could use some extra sleep. When you bring food on the train watch out for the smell. Food smells can keep you awake just as the loud music.
Also, watch out for the perfume. We have an enough to deal with all the smell of sweat in the cars.
When you have kids bring something to keep them occupied. It's never to too early to get to them into the habit of reading. Also, I know you have to take the kids out but can't you avoid the strollers in the early morning rush. Sometimes the crowds can scare the kids.
Speaking of the morning rush, please take your backpacks off your back. You taking off the pack and putting it front of you or between your legs can enable an additional person to squeeze into the car and not be late to work.
Wish your conductor a good evening or a good morning. He has to feel the heat of the tunnel all day, our delaying the trains and the shock of seeing rats as big as cats all day. If you must read the paper be careful with it. It's no fun having the NY Times in your face.
I know you are tired, just like I am, but if there is no room, don't squeeze into the seat so you make everyone uncomfortable. It's just too hot. The only time maybe this is acceptable is the winter when it so cold and the extra heat feels good. Also, if you see there are a space and two friends want to sit together be nice and slide over so they can sit together and they don't have their conversation over you.
When leaving the subway give random people a free ride. The MTA said get the most of our weekly Metro card. Plus, the MTA makes enough money. It is nice to help a fellow New Yorker who low on cash.
Help NYC tourists and explain to them this mass subway system as best you can. Tell them to travel to the outer boroughs during the week. All routes of travel during the week are different on the weekends because of track work and they will just get confused if you try to explain it them. Some fellow New Yorkers get confused themselves. If you live outside or work of Manhattan there is nothing you can do about it. The Subway is a great ride.
I hope my subway tips tips will help make your ride a less bumpy one and more enjoyable one.

Post a CommentI think I'd take the bus in the summer if I lived in NYC. I know my commute would take longer, but my nose sure would be happier!
