This easy Subway Tile Kitchen Counter Top craft project is perfect for anyone who likes to decorate with a vintage or contemporary look in his or her retro, modern, or vintage kitchen. Subway Tiles are the perfect material when you want to redecorate with a vintage look with a modern twist in your home.
Working with Subway Tiles can sound a little intimidating, but you will be pleasantly surprised how easy it really is!
To make Subway Tile Kitchen Counter Tops you will need to spread it out over a couple days; so working over the weekend will probably work best. While you won't be working on the craft project all day long, you do need to allow for time for materials to dry.
To Make Subway Tile Kitchen Counter Tops You Will Need:
Grout
Tile Adhesive
Subway Tiles
Sand paper
The first step is to clean your kitchen counter tops. Now, if you are working around a sink you will need to go ahead and remove it. Once you are finished you can re install it on the Subway Tile counter tops.
Everyone will have a different sized kitchen counter tops, so I can only give you tips on how to know how to make your Subway Tile Kitchen Counter Tops.
The entire counter tops will be covered in Subway Tiles.
Now, you need to establish the pattern or lack of pattern you want to create on your Subway Tile Kitchen Counter Tops. Personally, I like a brick pattern, but that is up to you. This looks like the same pattern you see on a brick wall.
Once you have your Subway Tile pattern established, you need to start working on your Kitchen Counter Tops.
So, take some rough sand paper and start to sand off the shine from our laminate counter tops.
When you have finished you can wipe away any dust.
Now, to start applying your Subway Tile tiles I recommend working in sections. This means, add some glue to the back of your individual tile and then place it in the correct location on the kitchen counter tops. You can glue directly onto your laminate counter tops as long as you sand them up and remove the shine.
Now, once the Subway Tile pieces have dried in place on the kitchen counter tops you can grout. Be sure to read how long your specific tile adhesive needs to dry before you grout.
You can use pre made grout or mix your own to save money.
Now, I would use a white grout for a vintage or traditional look. You can buy grout in almost any color imaginable.
Use a trowel to apply the grout liberally over each Subway Tile on the kitchen counter tops. Let it dry to a haze, then wipe a way with a sponge until clean and clear.
Now, once the grout has dried on your Subway Tile Kitchen Counter Tops you are finished.
