Success Through Tribulations

Royce Deaton

Finding inspiration in troubled times can occasionally be more strenuous than the original problem. There are as many catch phrases and Bible verses, as there is a conceivable situation we may get ourselves into. No matter what the Bible or hairy hillbilly may offer as wisdom, it always boils down to our own capacity to hear and apply such said remedies. Searching through many Bible verses and a million catch phrases, there is one particular verse that has always stood strong in my mind, no matter what the situation may be: Job 30:20-23.

"I shout for help, God, and get nothing, no answer!

I stand to face you in protest, and you give me a blank stare!

You've turned into my tormenter-

You slap me around, knock me about.

You raised me up so I was riding high

And then dropped me, and I crashed.

I know you're determined to kill me,

To put me six feet under.

I can relate to his grievance; for different reasons, but nonetheless, the accusation is understood. Though after reading this passage a few times, it hit me; God did respond, maybe not in the way Job would like, but in his own way and that made me realize I will no longer allow myself to be a victim. Most of the problems that I have been faced with were self created and could have been avoided if only I had been patient or used some other logical function of my brain. Even during the occasional "stuff happens" or "I've fallen and can't get up" moments, we still have the option of not being the victim. Some times, we realize that the situation "is what it is" and know that "this too shall pass". Not matter what the dilemma may be, we have to pick ourselves up, keep moving forward and attempt to light the world on fire with all our ability. Pointing a finger of blame at others blinds you from the lessons you could learn from your own mistakes. The hurdles we face are the foundation for creating success.
