Suddenly

Heather Dekin
Standing next to family on their 46th birthday in September
Toasting to all the good times and birthdays ahead
Unaware of when the last grain of sand left the hourglass
Rapidly vanishing into another space and time
Without warning, explanation or a clear understanding of why
Loved ones left to pick up the pieces of the undeveloped puzzle
The one where key elements have pulled a disappearing act
Or hiding amongst the furniture for spite in October
Unable to grasp the full knife penetrating shock of the loss
Becoming a dripping mess of a person in the bathroom mirror
Wondering what the next step is going to be in November
Running away to an exotic island with no extradition treaty to be anonymous
Would rather stay to deal with creating a new life from the ground up
A new personality carved out of Cosmopolitan magazine issues and Dr. Phil
A Phoenix flying through the ash covered trees with a vengeance
In support of a younger cherubic creature looking for some parental TLC
Trying to embrace the one day at a time mantra without cringing at the thought
Oh well, I guess the philosophy does work
Understanding it, not so much.
