Tom Servo

SudoGest is a brand name version of the drug pseudophedrine, which is a decongestant and is taken to relive the many symptoms of colds, flu's, and sinus infections. SudoGest contains many ingredients can produce several side effects. It is important that you know what the ingredients are and you talk to your doctor to find out if it is safe for you to take this medicine.

Active Ingredients

Active ingredients in a medication are those that perform a function in your body that helps the medicine do its job. SudoGest only has one active ingredient: pseudophedrine HCI. Pseudophedrine HCI is the drug that alleviates your cold, flu, and sinus infection symptoms. The other ingredients in SudoGest are inactive and do not perform any functions in your body that help the medicine do its job.

Inactive Ingredients

Although SudoGest only contains one active ingredient, it contains many inactive ingredients. It's just as important to know the inactive ingredients in a medication, as it is to know the active ones, because an inactive ingredient might be something you are allergic to or something that could worsen or trigger a preexisting condition you may have. So far, none of the inactive ingredients in SudoGest are known to cause side effects. The inactive ingredients in SudoGest are as follows:

  • Cellulose
  • Crosarmellose sodium
  • Dicalcium phosphate
  • FD&C Red 40
  • FD&C Yellow 6
  • Hypromellose
  • Polydestrose
  • Magnesium stearate
  • Silica gel
  • Polyethylene glycol
  • Titanium dioxide
  • Triacetin

Side Effects

The only ingredient in SudoGest that is known to cause side effects is pseudophedrine. Pseudophedrine can have many side effects ranging from mild to sever. Common side effects are headaches, vomiting, wakefulness, and weakness. More sever side effects are nausea, dizziness, insomnia, nervousness, stomach pains, abnormal heart rate, and difficulty breathing. If you experience any of the more sever effects, do not hesitate to contact your physician immediately.

Common Drugs to Avoid While Taking SudoGest

Pseudophedrine is a stimulant, so you should not mix it with other stimulants, such as caffeine. Taking other stimulants while taking SudoGest can cause a synergistic effect that will exacerbate the side effects of the drugs.

Other Warnings

Because pseudophedrine is a stimulant it can be abused and become habit forming. You should never take more than the prescribed or suggested dosage, and you should follow the directions exactly as they are labeled on the package or given to you by your doctor.
