Sue Ann Marcum, American University Professor, Murdered: Deandrew Hamilin, 18, Arrested While Driving Her Jeep

Julia Bodeeb
Who killed Sue Ann Marcum? The 52-year-old professor was found murdered in her home. If you have any information about this crime, contact the police at 240-773-5070 or make an anonymous tip at 1-866-411-8477.

Was Deandrew Hamilin involved in the crime? He was arrested while driving her Jeep. He attempted to flee the area when police started to pull him over while he was in the Jeep, notes the Washington Post. He has not yet been charged with anything as police continue to investigate the murder.

Ms. Marcum spent her last years helping young people as a professor. It is tragic that her life is now over at age 52. There is far too much violence in our society.

A Random Murder?

It is not yet known whether Deandrew Hamilin had any connection to Ms. Marcum. Police are still trying to figure out if this was a random crime or if whoever murdered Sue Ann Marcum knew her. Ms. Marcum taught at the American University School of Business.

Forced Entry to the Home

Sue Ann Marcum's body had signs of trauma when it was found on the first floor of her home. There was a forced entry at her home and signs that a struggle had taken place, notes the Washington Post. She lived in the Glen Echo neighborhood in Bethesda, Maryland at the 6200 block of Massachusetts Avenue.

A visitor at a neighbor's house saw a Jeep that looked like the one driven by Marcum drive by on Monday morning. The exact time of Marcum's death is still under investigation.

Was this crime a home burglary turned into a murder or was it a premeditated crime by someone who had known Sue Ann Marcum? Murders in what had previously seemed a safe suburban neighborhood are alarming indeed. And any time a professor is killed it impacts so many lives. Her students must be feeling immense horror over her death.

RIP Sue Ann Marcum. And condolences to her friends, family and the staff and students at American University.
