Sue Sylvester Costume Guide

DIY Glee Costume

S. Gustafson

This is the year of the Glee costume. Trick-or-treaters everywhere are planning on dressing up like Rachel Berry, Finn Hudson and Quinn Fabray. That's all good, but if you really want a memorable Glee costume this Halloween, you should dress up like Will Schuester's arch-nemesis Sue Sylvester. As the head of the Cheerios, Sue's chief ambition is to tear apart the Glee club. Her outfit is simple, which means that a Sue Sylvester costume will require minimal effort.

Outfit

Sue Sylvester always wears an Adidas tracksuit. If you want the exact same outfit as Sue, just stop by the closest American Apparel store. The new Glee clothing line at Macy's also has a Sue tracksuit. But it isn't necessary to purchase a new outfit for your Glee costume. Just about any matching track jacket and pants will work. Sue usually wears a red tracksuit, but she has worn blue in several episodes as well.

As far as footwear goes, all you need is a good pair of tennis shoes. Not only will they complete your Sue Sylvester costume, tennis shoes will also keep your feet comfy during a long trick-or-treating expedition.

Hair

If you already have short blonde hair, you won't have to do anything for your costume. If your hair is medium in length, you might be able to fake Sue Sylvester hair by pinning it up close to your hair. Brunettes and redheads have to invest in cropped blonde wigs. You can find a good wig for your Glee costume at just about any Halloween store.

Props

Although it is possible to pull off a Sue Sylvester costume with just a tracksuit and wig, your costume will look more complete if you add a couple of good props. You can imitate Sue by wearing a whistle or stopwatch around your neck. Another idea is to carry a clipboard and pretend to write notes about the people around you. For a creative twist on the Sue Sylvester costume, you can pick up a slushie at the local gas station and threaten to throw it on anybody who dares cross your path. The advantage of carrying a slushie is that it doubles as a Glee costume prop and a delicious treat.

The best Sue Sylvester costume will be easy to make and comfortable to wear. Of course, half of wearing this Glee costume is playing the part. If you're acting all polite, you just won't make a convincing Sue. All you need to do to terrify your friends and family is memorize a few of Sue's best insults and threats.
