SCENE 5 - In the bullpen.

Lucy is standing at a file cabinet and Myles is standing across the room, writing something on a board. Lucy suddenly lets out a yelp of pain. Myles spins around and sees Lucy clutching her face in agony.

Myles: Lucy!

Myles walks to Lucy quickly. She weakly waves him off.

Lucy: It's oh---. . . it's not okay. The pain . . . It's shooting up my face and down my neck.

Myles: I'm taking you to the dentist right now.

Lucy nods in agreement.

Myles: Do you want your coat?

Lucy shakes her head "no."

Myles: (helping Lucy to walk out of the bullpen) Okay. Just take your time . . .

Cut to a conference room at the office of Ms. Lancaster's attorney.

Jack, Sue and an attorney who looks as though she is right out of law school are seated on opposite sides of a conference table. The attorney has a stack of papers and files on the table and a tablet computer.

Attorney: (leaning over to whisper to Sue and Jack, across the table from her) I have to admit this is my first big case. Assault.

Jack and Sue exchange glances.

A clerk walks in, hands the attorney a file, and sits down. The attorney assumes a more official demeanor.

Attorney: As you know, Ms. Betty Lancaster has brought suit against Mr. William Prost for assault. We'll start by finding out what you saw, in general terms, and then I'll question you more closely.

Jack: Well, as I told you on the phone, we . . . I didn't really see much.

Sue: Yes. I didn't see much either. We came out of the building and saw them there, but we (indicating Jack) were talking about what we were working on.

Attorney: (seriously) But you did see the incident, didn't you?

Jack: Out of the corner of my eye.

Attorney: What did you see, Mr. Hudson?

Jack: (sighing) I saw a man come up to the woman and, I guess, he kissed her. That's what it seemed like.

Attorney: Alright. And then what?

Sue: And then she hit him. (making a whacking motion) On the head.

Jack: They were both wearing coats and hats. Look, I don't even know what these people looked like. I couldn't tell you a thing about them.

Sue: I didn't see what they looked like.

Jack: I really don't think our "testimony" would ever be admissible.

Attorney: I'll be the judge of that.

Jack rolls his eyes a little.

Attorney: Did the man say anything to the woman at that time?

Jack: I didn't hear him say anything.

Sue: Neither did I.

Sue and Jack look slyly at each other.

Jack: (under his breath, to Sue) Lame.

Cut to the bullpen.

Dimitrius and Bobby are present. Jack walks in.

Jack Okay, we're going to put Julie in the loop tomorrow so that she can help us identify Maddox if he shows. I don't like it, but we have no choice. She'll be with Tara and Sue on the surveillance feed. Hopefully, Maddox will show.

Bobby: He will.

Jack makes an "I hope so" face.

Cut to the waiting room at the oral surgeon's office.

Myles is sitting in a chair in the waiting room, leafing through a magazine. A nurse opens a door into the waiting room and looks around until she sees Myles.

Nurse: (looking at a patient file) (to Myles) Mr. Dotson?

Myles realizes the nurse is calling him by Lucy's last name.

Myles: Oh. I'm not ---

Nurse: (smiling, holding the file up to her face, as if whispering) Your wife really needs you.

Myles: She does? I mean---

Nurse: Come on back. She's in the recovery room and, to tell you the truth, I think she's feeling a little pootie.

Myles: (muttering, as he follows the nurse) Pootie?

Cut to the park near the FBI.

Tara and Sue are walking back to work after having had lunch together.

Sue's phone buzzes. She checks it.

Sue: That was Myles. He took Lucy to the oral surgeon and they got her in right away.

Tara: I hope she doesn't drop dead when she wakes up from anesthesia and Myles is there.

Sue: The surgeon said Lucy would need two days to recover.

Tara: Ugh. I hope it's not too rough for her.

Sue: Me, too.

Tara and Sue walk in silence for a little while.

Sue: Tara, do you know how to cook? Like . . . Chili?

SCENE 6 - In the conference room at the FBI.

Jack, Sue and Julie are seated at the table.

Julie: (animated) Of course, as a law-abiding citizen, it's illegal for me to carry a gun in D.C. Yet this lunatic steals my gun, uses it to rob a bank in D.C., twice, threatens people I work with and me, several times, and it's against the law for me to defend myself.

Jack raises his eyebrows, expressing that he understands her point of view.

Julie: Don't get me wrong. I appreciate what you do. But I ought to be able to take steps to ensure my own safety.

Sue: We understand your concerns. We're going to do everything we can to get Trey Maddox off the street. We need to know everything about Maddox that will help us recognize him on sight. We haven't been able to find any photos of him, not even a high school yearbook.

Julie: (draws in a breath, thinking) He's handsome. And, believe me, I know handsome men. (She looks pointedly at Jack, but moves on quickly.) Blonde . . . Um . . .

Sue: What about a mark on his hand? On the tape, at the edge of his sleeve, there seemed to be a mark on his hand.

Julie: I can't believe I forgot that! Because, believe me, they were pretty much unforgettable.

Jack: What did you forget that was unforgettable?

Julie: His tattoos. This last time I saw him, at the meet, I noticed he'd gotten his arms tattooed. Quite a bit on each arm. And the tattoos came down onto his hands.

Jack: Do you remember what the tattoos looked like?

Julie: Oh, yeah. On this arm (indicating the left arm), he has a big, coiled snake. Red, black, orange. Its head extends onto his hand like this (indicating). Like, its tongue, spitting venom, whatever. Hideous, under the circumstances.

Jack nods.

Julie: The other arm (indicating the right arm), I think up here (the forearm) was all a tribal design. Mainly black. But on the top of this hand was something that looked like a . . . Leprechaun.

Sue: A Leprechaun?

Julie: Little green hat with the black band and a gold buckle . . . A rainbow . . . Yes, a Leprechaun.

Cut to the bullpen.

Tara is dishing up chili from a crockpot into bowls. Sue is handing them out to Jack, Bobby, Myles and Dimitrius.

Tara: So, the last one, we called "Heat Wave."

Bobby: Heat Ripple.

Tara: This one we're calling "Habanero Heaven."

Sue: (to the guys) Now, be honest.

The guys eat some of the chili. They don't say anything. They sort of look at each other.

Tara: Be honest.

Dimitrius: Where's the Habanero?

Myles: Where's the heaven?

Bobby: You are competing in the "Hot to Trot" category, right?

Sue and Tara nod "yes."

All the guys shake their heads "no."

Tara: Not. . . . Hot to Trot. Okay. (to Sue) We'll try again.

SCENE 7 - At the Midline Bank branch office in D.C.

Jack and Bobby are in a parked car south of the bank entrance. Dimitrius and Myles are in a parked car north of the bank entrance. Tara, Sue and Julie are in the van, watching surveillance feed. The sidewalk is somewhat crowded with people walking in both directions and crossing the street at various points.

Jack: (on his headset) Ready.

Dimitrius: (on his headset) Ready.

Jack surveys what he can see of the bank lobby from the car.

Jack: (to Bobby) It's pretty crowded in there.

Bobby: (to Jack; concerned) Maybe they're giving away toasters.

Cut to inside the van. Tara, Sue and Julie are watching the screen.

Julie: (suddenly) There he is! (She points at the screen.)

Tara: (calmly, on her headset) Subject is walking south, toward the bank entrance. Blonde hair, no glasses. Jeans. White long-sleeved t-shirt with red letters, "USEF." That's red letters Uniform, Sierra, Echo, Foxtrot.

Cut to Dimitrius and Myles in their parked vehicle. They see Maddox walk by them.

Dimitrius: (on his headset) We have a visual. Will follow.

Cut to Jack and Bobby in their parked vehicle. Jack signals with his head and he and Bobby get out.

Jack: (on his headset) Give him room.

Cut to a view of the street. Maddox is walking on the sidewalk toward the bank entrance. Dimitrius and Myles are behind him and Jack and Bobby are walking toward him.

Maddox reaches the bank, slows down and scans the lobby through the windows. As he gets to the door, he stops and looks again in the lobby.

Cut to inside the van.

Tara: (on headset) Subject stopped on sidewalk, on north side of bank entrance.

Cut to Jack and Bobby. They lose sight of Maddox for a minute as people are walking by.

Cut to Dimitrius and Myles coming up from behind Maddox. They don't get too close. They stop and watch him.

Dimitrius: (on headset) Subject on the phone. Still at the north-side of the entrance.

Cut to a view of the bank entrance. Maddox is standing outside, on the phone. Suddenly the bank doors open and people begin to scurry out. Maddox hangs up. A security guard is in the bank lobby ushering people, including customers, tellers and other employees out. Maddox mixes into this crowd and disappears.

Jack: (disgusted; seeing the crowd coming out of the bank and losing sight of Maddox) That's it. (on his headset) Close in.

Jack and Bobby start to run up to make their way through the crowd, looking for Maddox, and Dimitrius and Myles do the same.

Cut to Jack standing on the street, dejectedly looking around.

Jack: (on his headset, to Tara) Anything at all on which way he went?

Bobby and Myles walk up quickly to Jack, shaking their heads "no."

Tara: (on her headset, reviewing tape) So far, nothing on the tape. . . . Wait. (reading a message on her screen) . . . Metro P.D. just confirmed that it was a bomb threat. Made on a prepaid phone. No identifying account.

Cut to the conference room at the FBI.

Jack, Bobby and Julie are seated around the conference table.

Julie: I'm going back to work. It's the only way.

Bobby: That's not a good idea just yet.

Julie: You know as well as I do that the reason Maddox didn't go inside the bank is because I wasn't there. For him, it's not just about robbing the bank. It's about me.

Jack: We know that. Work with us. We have a plan.

Julie considers.

Julie: Alright.

Jack looks at Julie suddenly, studying her face. Julie looks back at Jack, steadily, for a moment.

Julie: (to all) I've got an event scheduled at our branch office in Fairfield, Virginia. Would that fit in with your plan?

SCENE 8 - At the conference room where Jack and Sue previously met with Ms. Lancaster's attorney.

The previous attorney and an older colleague, a senior attorney, are seated at the table. Jack and Sue are seated at the table across from the two attorneys.

Sr. Attorney: Thanks for coming back for a second interview.

Jack grimaces a little.

Sr. Attorney: I've read over your answers to our last interrogatories and it's still not clear to me what you saw.

Jack: That's because it's not clear to us. We didn't see much.

Sr. Attorney: Right. . . . Let's do it this way. Show me what you saw.

Sue: Show you?

Sr. Attorney: Yes. I'm a visual person. Just . . . Act it out, so I can get a handle on this.

Sue: (whispering to Jack) Is this really necessary?

Jack: (whispering to Sue) Let's just cooperate and get out of here.

Cut to Jack and Sue standing up in the conference room, preparing to act out the incident they saw.

Sue: The woman is walking this way. (Sue walks away from Jack.)

Jack: And the man goes up and --- (walking up behind Sue, catching her by surprise, spinning her around) --- kisses her like this---

Jack looks as though he is going to kiss Sue on the cheek, but he startles Sue and she quickly turns to face him, which leaves him kissing her on the lips. When he realizes what is happening, he goes ahead, more or less accidentally, and lays one on Sue, right on the lips. Then, turning away from Sue, Jack shakes his head, with a "what just happened here?" look on his face.

Sue: --- And --- (very surprised at Jack's kiss; grabbing a file folder off the table) --- she hauls off and hits him like this (whacking Jack rather hard on the head with the folder, startling him). And---

Jack and Sue look at each momentarily, as if to say "what are you doing?" Sue is touching her mouth and Jack is rubbing his head.

Jack: (to the attorneys) That's all we saw. That was it.

Cut to Jack and Sue leaving the conference room and walking together quickly down the hallway.

Sue: He did not kiss her like that!

Jack: She did not whack him like that!
