Mainly because of their large size, the Suffolk horse gives off a magnificent, strong appearance when it appears. They are larger than the average horse, and will generally reach a height of about 16 to 17 hands weighing from around 1700 - 2000 pounds. They have a large, symmetrical and uniformed body with the most beautiful chestnut coat around; Suffolk horses with coats that are not chestnut and perhaps shades of light gold to dark red would not be able to register their Suffolk horse. Some of them will have white markings on their coats although this is not as common. Because of their incredible strength, the Suffolk horse has strong legs, and a strong neck with a short back. More detailed information can be found on S.H.S.A. the Suffolk Horse Show Association.
The Suffolk horse has a great stamina, and has great determination to accomplish a task. They have a light and easy temperament which makes them easy to get along with, and another reason why they can make good pets. They are docile and have a gentle nature meaning that they are actually relatively easy to train especially when they are at a young age. The Suffolk Horse is best used for labour and agricultural uses like farming. One of the best aspects of the Suffolk Horse is that they consume little in comparison to all of the effort and the time they put into the work that they do.
The Suffolk Horse has a rather pure line because they were bred by farmers in England with the sole intention of keeping the line pure. The Suffolk Horse has quite a long history with us or that we are aware of. The Suffolk Horses date back all the way to the medieval times where they were served as grand war horses and participated in the war actively. They have also been used for labour and transportation purposes since then.
The Suffolk Horse is a great pet to consider due to their nature, and their hardworking ability. They give off a wonderful strong feeling and are relatively large compared to the other horses.
