Suggestion to 'Glee': Let Shelby Adopt Quinn's Baby

Ideas for Idina Menzel Story Lines on Glee

Last night on Glee's Lady Gaga episode, Rachel and Shelby struggled to come to terms with their mother/daughter relationship. While Rachel had high hopes, Shelby realized that they would never be able to have a normal relationship.

Last night on Glee, Shelby (Idina Menzel) admitted that being a mom to a baby was very different than being a mom to a teenager. While she had regrets about giving up her baby, she felt that it was too late. As she put it, "I'm your mother, but I'm not your mom." Shelby and Rachel shared a hug and a Lady Gaga duet before sadly saying good bye.

I had to wonder about Shelby's motives this week on Glee. Why go through all the trouble to send Jonathan Groff to New Directions and her tape to Rachel only to break her heart ? (unless of course Shelby's motives were less than honorable and that it was somehow a ploy to sabotage the glee club's chances by playing with Rachel's emotions).

Given the developments this week with Rachel and Shelby, here are a few suggestions for Idina Menzel story lines.

Idina Menzel to Adopt Quinn's Baby on Glee

Idina Menzel seemed to have genuine regrets about giving up her baby and about not being able to have children of her own. Under her ice-cold professional facade, there's no reason to believe that she would have loved to raise a child from infancy.

If Idina Menzel turns out to be a benevolent character, then why not let her adopt Quinn's baby? Although Puck's intentions may be honorable, he and Quinn are in high school. Realistically, it would be very difficult to raise a child. Not only do they lack life experience, but it would be a struggle to financially support a child while continuing their education.

As an adoptive mother, Shelby would be a more appropriate choice than Terri Schuester. And raising a child may soften Shelby's image and provide a source of healing for any regrets she may have about Rachel. And Quinn and Puck will be pleased to know that their daughter will be with someone who will teach her to love music.

A Fling Between Puck and Shelby

Although it would be a slap in the face to Quinn, Glee could spice it up by creating romantic chemistry between Puck and Shelby. It makes sense. For Puck, Shelby may combine the qualities that he loves about Quinn and Rachel. Shelby is a "hot MILF" like Quinn, but a "good-looking Jew" like Rachel.

Given that Rachel and Finn are an inevitability, let the Puckleberry shippers have their outlet with Puck and an older version of Rachel.

Taye Diggs to Play One of Rachel's Dads

During the pilot episode, we saw that Rachel had one black dad and one white dad. Why not bring in Taye Diggs to play Rachel's black father? Given his real life relationship with Idina Menzel, it would not be a stretch to believe that their characters would make a baby together. And Taye Diggs has played gay characters convincingly in the past. Besides, shouldn't Rachel's talents come from both sides of the family?

Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel Fight for Will's Affections

Given formerly wholesome Will Schuester's recent escapades, he would probably enjoy a good cat fight between Glinda and Elphaba. And why not have them put Mercedes and Santana to shame by duking it out in song?

While we're at it, how about a story line between Terri Schuester and Bryan Ryan? When Terri finds out about Will's brief interludes with April and Shelby, Terri plots to get even, enlisting hilarious sister Kendra to foster the romance?

Manipulative Terri could stick it to Will by pursuing his high school frenemy. And the attraction would be mutual, as Bryan admits that she was the "one who got away."

Those are all actually pretty cool ideas - I'm especially fond of the Kristin Chenoweth/Idina Menzel reunion. Honestly though I'd use any excuse to get them to duet again..
