Suggestions for a Career in Writing Online

Leanne Bloms
Writing online for a website and making money can be really difficult. It takes a lot of time and dedication, and if you do not stick with it, it can be really frustrating. Well, I am here to tell you that it is not a career which you will become rich quick, it takes a lot of skill and dedication. There are several websites you can get help, and do some basic writing to improve your skill, but it is a matter of time before you can become successful. Here are some of my suggestions if you are interested in writing online for some extra cash.

Find several websites that you can write for. I know of dozens of websites, and I took the time to research which ones would be best for me. Being new at this, I did not want to invest any money on an online business and I thought I would start small. Pick a couple of websites to start out with, and then grow. It also depends on how much time you have to dedicate. Sometimes it is best just to start with a couple because you can spend a couple of months on these individual sites and see what works and what doesn't.

A great place to start writing is Helium.com. Helium is great because they offer a lot of contests with a variety of contests so you can write about things that you are familiar with, and you will be ranked. This is a great tool because you can see how you measure up with everyone else. Also after your articles have been published, people will leave feedback to you. There is nothing better than when you are starting out to get some pointers from people who have been doing it for awhile.

I also recommend joining Gather.com. Gather is a great place where you can publish anything, including photos and videos, and you can get great advice from great writers. You do not earn any money on Gather, unless you do a certain amount of activity in a month. Rather than money, you earn points in which you can redeem for gift cards. I do not think of Gather as a big money maker, just great advice from real people who care.

Last but not least, I think that another great start would be to join Associatedcontent, com. This site is great once you think you are ready for the big time. Associated Content pays you up front for articles, as well as paying you for page views. They will also give you advice, and they have a great forum for more advice and networking. One of the first sites I joined was Associated Content and it was a great help.

Talking to people online will help you figure out what sites will work for you and what will not. I think I spent most of my time the first month doing my research. The main key in being successful is dedication. If you do not keep at it and keep trying, it's not going to work for you. Do not be discouraged if you get a bad review or an article declined. Take constructive criticism and work with it. With practice, you will be able to write online and be quite successful!

This is a great, informative article. I'm definitely going to look into Helium. Let's face it, you can't make money writing the old fashioned way anymore via the magazines. The web is th e way to go.
