Suicidal Policies of Politicians of Astounding Stupidity

T. Ramaswamy
Over two centuries ago Dr.Samuel Johnson made a remarkable statement about politics. That was," politics is the last refuge of a scoundrel". At that time the description was adequate to explain the main characteristics of a politician. Now times have changed and civilisation has advanced. In some cases it has changed to such an extent of becoming a disease which has affected politicians also. So a new breed of politicians has emerged. This breed is driven by the greed of power at any cost. This is seen in great magnitude with increasing variety in some democracies. They specialize in creating problems which erupt like volcanoes causing widespread damage, to life, property and administration apart from colossal wastage of time, effort and money. Loss to business and industry runs to billions.

One such example of this contagious phenomenon, which spreads faster and with greater intensity than plague, is party - sponsored agitations forcing citizens to remain in doors and bringing closure of all shops and establishments at least for a day. In one province alone it hits a record of 90 days on different occasions in a year. The agitation is the party's own creation. All parties whether they are in the opposition or in power actively participate in the festival of violence. No doubt to some extent this can be attributed to the government's poor handling of situations. But the organizers of this organized vandalism of the worst type forget that there is a democratic process through which they can find a solution without disrupting peace and tranquility of the locality.

The variety, extend and depth of damage caused by their destructive activities give the sponsors of such high tech hooliganism a sense of fulfillment. They paralyze life in all areas of activity. People do not go out for fear of losing their life and limb and often properties. The governments proclaim to give protection but it is only similar to the guarantee of a protection and insurance from an earthquake or tsunami. They are impotent to the core as far as dealing with such a menace is concerned.

There is one great thing of unanimity in the approach and content of action by the politicians belonging to all political parties. All of them revel in such a festival causing public nuisance. One will vie with another and try to excel the other, though in colossal stupidity. This is monopolistic competition in stupidity. The public have nothing to choose between political parties. They cannot say who is of less nuisance to them. Left to oneself no individual would like to vote for any of the parties promoting and shielding the trouble makers. But the shameless begging for votes, far lower than the most shameful of shameless actions, makes them forget the past and give the party one more chance to refine themselves. This again proves to be a great risk and brings greater disappointment.

The frequency of the menace in some countries is so great that public interest litigations are initiated and court orders obtained. This is to save the citizens from the menace of murky devastating demonstrations and other forms of demonic protests in the name of democracy. But these orders remain on paper and cannot be enforced due to the ineffective non functioning governments.

We are aware of terrorists forming suicide squads and human bombs to create terror and panic among innocent citizens to satisfy their devilish intentions. But the suicidal mania of political vermins gives rise to a menace of alarming dimensions to the economies of the territory they operate. God save such countries and citizens. Our prayer is that such politicians be endowed with noble thoughts at least in future for the benefit of humanity. If this prayer is not answered then, "May the evil doers be isolated, picked up and transported safely to an inaccessible location, very likely to be hit by a severe earthquake or tsunami, in public interest, of course. That seems to be the only solution that can be thought of even by a brilliant human brain.
