Summarizing July, and My Goal for August, 2010

Chunking it Down, One Month at a Time

R.C. Johnson
My New Year's resolution for 2010 was to set a new goal for each month in order to make improvements in my life on a consistent basis. Seven months of the year have gone by much too quickly!

My July, 2010 goal was stated:

My goal for July will be a bit radical for me - I plan to conscientiously skip setting any type of goal for one month! That means no planned goal whatsoever for personal, business, financial, health or any reason! I'm naturally a goal-oriented person but I think that this will set up a specific time for recharging my mental batteries.

So how did I do?

July was a grand choice for a month off from goals. My walks have been particularly enjoyable, with the early-morning temperatures being extra-pleasant, the flowers at their colorful best, and the grass a lush green thanks to the townhome in-ground watering system.

I took time to wander through the markets more than usual, and even accomplished the purchase of new glasses (an extra pair for the computer) and a bigger computer monitor. The small screen on my laptop computer was getting to be a royal pain considering I am writing almost full-time some days.

A nice surprise occurred for me here at AC. Although my writing was sporadic, I was the recipient of more page views than I expected from my older material. Consequently, I reached the 100,000+ page view total due to page views of my older material! I share that not to pat myself on the back but as encouragement for newer contributors. Plugging along even when progress seems impossibly slow does pay off eventually.

In summary, for the month of July I did nothing in particular, but I did anything and everything that I wanted to do. It felt like having a mini-vacation without having to pack and drive somewhere. What a deal!

My goal for August, 2010

SEO has never made a lot of sense to me. About a month ago I downloaded a 27-page document that my category manager at examiner.com listed in a newsletter as something she recommended we read. I read two to three pages at which time my brain slipped into hibernate mode regarding SEO, and I haven't looked at the document since.

During the month of August, I plan to read one page of that 27-page document each day, and then reread that page at least five times. By the end of August I WILL have a better understanding of SEO.

I'll report back at the end of the month, when I WILL be more SEO-savvy.
